Nash

Two days. It had only taken two days for them to have enough evidence that they’d be able to take down Adam’s ex-stepfather and the entire cult that was masquerading as a church. The number of laws being broken was disgusting. There was no way that Jim Crossway, the pastor, Adam’s ex-stepfather, hadn’t been paying off authorities to turn a blind eye to the number of complaints that had been made.

Carson had agreed and was already making discreet inquiries with the help of Remy.

Nash rose from the conference table he’d been hunched over. Their hotel suite had been ground zero for the investigation especially since they didn’t want to draw the attention of other cops who might warn Jim Crossway.

His L.T. was on the phone with his old captain, setting up backup and finalizing the details of the raid.

It was going to happen although now there was a lot of planning that needed to take place. Since he and Lincoln weren’t part of Las Vegas Metro, they’d only be there in an observation aspect. They couldn’t get their hands dirty. Nash wouldn’t put the cuffs on Jim Crossway himself. That fucking sucked.

He cracked his neck before the need to move hit. Nash paced the conference room until Eric Snith, one of the Vegas detectives, glared at him.

Nash grinned back at the other man. He knew that his energy annoyed the uptight detective. And Smith was an uptight fucker. He worked and worked, really dug into the investigation. Man was a good cop. The other two detectives were no less determined but different personality-wise.

The three of them intrigued Nash.

The detective in him wanted to push.

While Eric Smith was a straitlaced and rule-following detective, Remi North was his opposite. Remy threw out ridiculous and outlandish ideas just to see if any of them stuck. He also had almost as much energy as Nash. Smith threatened Remi a lot. It was funny. Dane Rawlings, the third member of the group, was calm, cool, and smooth. He often played peacemaker between Smith and Remi. Nash had yet to see Rawlings lose his temper and that had happened to everyone else during the investigation including the L.T.

Rawlings would just sit back in his chair and calmly make practical suggestions.

Nash wanted to smack him. Didn’t anything get Rawlings riled up?

Smith sighed as he dropped his pen. Nash had only made like twelve passes around the room.

“Nash, why don’t you go see what Lucas and Adam are doing?” Lincoln suggested. He liked to play peacemaker too. “We’ll be packing it in for the night soon anyway.”

Not seeing any reason not to check on his guys, Nash shrugged before he hobbled out of the conference room.

Lucas had been right about one thing. The space in the suite had been perfect for them to set up in. Nash got that the owner was a client of Lucas's, but it was still weird to be in such a lovely place.

He entered the large living room to find Lucas, Maverick, and Adam going through bags on the coffee table.

“Hey! How was shopping?” he asked.

Adam spun around with a huge smile. “Oh my God! The shops here! It’s ridiculous how many shops there are.”

“But you had fun?” Nash shuffled forward until he could wrap his arms around Adam. He breathed in Adam’s soothing scent. Vanilla and something that was purely him. At first Nash had thought that Adam’s scent was from all the baking he did, but he’d quickly figured out that Adam’s favorite soap had pieces of real vanilla bean. It was some fancy soap that Sam had bought him. Nash didn’t care where it came from. He just hoped that Adam never ran out.

“So much fun.” Adam nuzzled beneath his chin. “You look tired.”

He was fucking exhausted. Not that Nash would speak those words out loud. He was doing this for Adam and Maverick. Mostly Adam. He wanted his baby to be able to sleep at night again without nightmares haunting him. Since they’d arrived, Adam had been trying to pretend that he was fine but at night when Nash was curled around Adam’s back, Adam whimpered in his sleep.

Nash had suggested Lucas take Adam home but neither Lucas nor Nash had liked that idea.

“I’m fine.” He rubbed Adam’s back. “How about you?”

“Good.” Adam pulled back. “I’m glad we got out today.”

So they were still ignoring what was happening. “What’d you buy.”

Adam’s eyes twinkled as he picked up a pink bag. “We went to the candy store!” He jiggled the bag.

“Awesome!” Nash snatched the bag out of Adam’s hand and peeked inside. Score! Gummy bears. Happily hobbling to the couch, Nash opened the bag and shoved a handful into his mouth as he sat.

“Nash!” Adam protested.
