“Witches?” Some guy said as he swayed and eyed her with suspicion.

“Watches!” Kristen said and hightailed it away from him before he breathed more fumes on her.

“Yeah, but she’s your mate,” Robert said. “If not you, your wolf should be demanding you’re off guarding and wooing her.”

“Oh, he is,” Billy said and knocked back another shot of whiskey. “He’s practically howling inside.”

Robert knew that wasn’t good news. When a man ignored his wolf, it led to complications, one of which was the wolf pushing forward and breaking free, and in a bar with humans, that wasn’t a good idea. “But, she’s your mate…”

“You said that,” Billy said and turned on his stool towards his brother. “And I wish you wouldn’t keep reminding me of it.”

“What?” Robert said with disbelief.

“Does she hunt? Does she fish? Does she howl at the moon?” Billy said and shook his head. “She witches. What do we have in common?”

“You are mates,” Robert said.

“That’s the last time,” Billy said, wagging his finger at his brother. “Next time I hear it, I’m liable to deck somebody, probably you.”

Kristen pushed her way to Robert’s side and grabbed his arm to get his attention. “It’s your mate,” she informed Billy, and the man groaned with annoyance. “She’s drunk and lost in the woods – we think.”

“You think?” Billy said, dropping from the stool and standing head and shoulders above her.

“Well, she’s drunk, that’s for sure, and Maria can’t find her, but she did find some tracks leading to the woods,” Kristen said. “Of course, this is Zoe; she could have curled up in the wood pile and gone to sleep.”

Billy’s beast gave him one choice, get the hell out of the bar, or it would push forward and force the shift right there in front of the humans. He grumbled a growl, and the alpha noticed.

“That’s it,” Robert said. He fisted Billy’s collar and shoved him towards the back of the bar. “Out you go!”

In truth, Billy didn’t put up much of a fight as his alpha marched him down the narrow hallway to the backdoor.

Kristen was hard on their heels. “Door!” she said, spotting it and opening it with magic. Robert launched his brother outside into the snow, and the man skidded and stumbled, but he found his feet. “And stay out!” Kristen said, chuckling to herself.

“Not helpful,” Robert said.

“But amusing,” Kristen replied, grinning.

“I was heading for the damn door,” Billy growled.

“Not fast enough; your fangs are showing,” Robert informed him. “Let’s go; you’re not driving.”

“I’ve had half a bottle; I’m perfectly capable…”

“Of getting pulled over by the local police roadblock and breath tested,” Robert said. “He’s not gonna do that to me because he already did it on the way into town.”

“I’m coming,” Kristen said, rushing to keep up with them and the long stride of their legs.

“Why is she coming?” Billy grumbled.

“She probably wants to watch you make an ass out of yourself,” Robert replied and was greeted with another deep warning growl. “And she’s Zoe’s friend and a witch, and you never know when you might need a witch.”

“I don’t need any more witches in my life,” Billy said, yanking open the passenger door and throwing himself inside the truck.

“Is he the nice brother?” Kristen asked, shrugging.

“No,” Robert replied.
