Billy’s fist hit the alpha square on the jaw. “I said don’t say it,” Billy growled.

Robert hadn’t been expecting the punch; otherwise, he would have planted his feet and not ended up on his backside in the snow. “I’m going to give you that one for free,” he said, pushing to his feet and testing his jaw. “Now, pull your big boy mating pants on and take the woman home to thaw her out.” He growled a warning, and then he was gone.

“Get back here,” Billy growled. The alpha wasn’t as fast as a vampire, but he’d shot off quickly enough to leave Billy in the lurch. “Ah, damn it,” he grumbled, watching the witch trying to puff up the snow to make a pillow for her head. “Are you kidding me?”

“Hush,” Zoe said, waving her hand. “I’m trying to sleep here.”

Billy rolled his eyes to the heavens and noted the dirty cloud full of snow through the tree line above. “Wonderful,” he grumbled, stalking across to the witch.

Just as he was about to bend, he heard a noise from the trees and looked in that direction – nothing there. Then the snow started to fall, and within a few seconds, it was coming down like someone had shaken up a snowglobe.

“Just what I need,” Billy growled.

Now he had to decide – the witch was already frosty – did he take her back to the holiday rental cabin, or did he take the shorter route to his hunting place?

As if by magic, mother nature gave him her answer as the wind whipped up and the snow came thick and fast. His cabin was closer.

Heather noted the first swing of a punch the moment it was in flight. There was a rush of excitement, the adrenaline kicked in, and she dumped the empty beer bottles she was holding in the large bin, turned and headed for the two men.

Duncan turned all the way on his stool to watch. He rested his elbows back against the bar and eyed the witch in all her glory.

“How about we make this a bet?” Eileen said.

“What did you have in mind?” Duncan asked as Heather reached out, fisted Larry’s collar and yanked him away from the fist coming in his direction.

“Five to one that one of us will need to intervene,” Eileen said and grimaced when Heather delivered a boot into Jed’s gut that sent him stumbling back in surprise.

“Taken,” Duncan rushed out.

“Hold on…”

“No take-backs,” Duncan said, grinning. “That witch is a ball breaker,” he added, and right on cue, Heather kneed Larry in the balls.

Eileen groaned beside him. “That’s cheating,” she muttered. “I wouldn’t have done it that way.”

“Liar,” Duncan said, chuckling. “And I think she figured out your guys are shifters – that means the witch can use magic and doesn’t need to hide it.”

“There are times when I don’t like you very much,” Eileen said, folding her arms and settling in to watch the witch do her thing.

“Yeah, but then there are those times when you need me around to wipe a memory or two from a human, and you just love me,” Duncan said, chuckling. He reached for the bottle behind him. “I wonder how your boy is getting on wooing his mate,” he said with a teasing grin.

“Don’t make me throw your backside out in the snow,” Eileen growled.

“You’ve got to get used to these witches,” he said.

“Not all of them,” Eileen growled, scowling.

“Never say never,” Duncan said. “Who knows what fate has planned?”

“Me. I might just move to one of those cabins in the middle of nowhere,” she replied with a huff.

“Why is everything white?” Zoe asked. “Why am I looking at a butt?” she tried to push up, but all she got was a face full of snow for her trouble.

Billy grumbled and growled to himself as he stalked through the snow, a witch over his shoulder, fighting the sudden bad weather that had come his way and wishing he was somewhere else. He was sure there hadn’t been a storm brewing tonight, and he guessed his instincts were off.
