“Ren wasn’t working for Richard,” the guard rushed out. “Richard and Jared were working for Ethan and then Miles ruined it all by killing Jared.”

“Why were they working for him?” he asked.

It didn’t make any sense why Richard and Jared would work for Ethan.

“I don’t know! I just know that Jared was going to give his little bitch to Ethan as a peace offering but Miles ruined it and now he’s mad,” the guard said.

Miles saw red as the guy called his sister a little bitch. He walked toward the man and lifted his fist, pummeling it down on his face several times.

He didn’t care how wrecked his face was going to get. No one called his little sister a bitch.

“You fucking call her a bitch again and you’re dead,” Miles spat on him. “Ethan will not lay a hand on my sister.”

Rogan pulled Miles’ shoulder back. He glared at Rogan and stepped away from the guard.

“We’ll send Ren and Ethan a message that they shouldn’t mess with our family or our women,” Rogan said.

Miles gave the guard a wicked smile and stepped toward him. Lifting his fist up, he propelled it forward, hitting him in the temple and knocking him out.

CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE

STORM

Storm opened her eyes and saw white. Where was she? Why was everything so white?

Groaning, she tried to sit up but a hand on her shoulder stopped her.

“Shhh, you’re okay. You need to stay laying down,” Hedda said.

“Where am I?” Storm asked.

“You’re back at the compound.”

Storm started to giggle.

“Compound is such a funny word,” she said, continuing to giggle. “Comp and pound. Smush it together and you get compound!”

She turned her head and looked at Hedda who was smiling at her.

“You’re on some pretty high pain medicine. Do you want me to get Angelo for you?” she asked.

Storm’s eyes started to water.

“Daddy?” she whispered. “Where’s Daddy?”

She brought her head up and looked around, but no one else was in the room. Where could he be? Did he leave her? Did he realize she was too much work and didn’t want to take care of her anymore?

She started to sob.

“Daddy?” she asked, turning toward Hedda. “Where is he?”

“He isn’t here right now,” Hedda said.

More tears streamed down Storm’s face as Hedda said that. He didn’t want her anymore.

The door opened and hope filled Storm, but when Angelo walked into the room and not her Daddy, a sob broke free.

She just wanted her Daddy.
