“I know working at the bookstore meant a lot to you. You enjoyed working there so I’ll make you one,” he said. “It’s final and you aren’t going to change my mind.”

She let out a sigh. There was no point arguing with him over this. He was stubborn and she knew he wasn’t going to take no for an answer. Maybe if this actually happened, she could employ Felix and give her a raise but also let her daughter come to work so she didn’t have to pay for childcare.

Storm didn’t know if childcare was expensive or not but being a single mom in New York couldn’t be easy. Maybe she could help.

“Since that’s settled, I came in here to tell you Hedda wanted to talk to you,” he said. “You’ll be talking in my office in the back of the house to give you guys some privacy.”

“Where will you be?” she couldn’t help but ask.

Ever since they got back home, she didn’t want to be far away from him or wanted to know where he was. She didn’t understand why, but it eased her mind knowing where he was going to be when he left her.

“I’ll be here in the front living room talking to some guards and Rogan,” he replied. “Don’t worry. I won’t be far and if anything happens, I’ll be there.” He gave her a wink.

She blushed and looked down at her lap. She didn't like this effect he had on her. It was like he knew what she was thinking and what she needed. He was reassuring her when he didn’t need to.

“Now, I’m going to pick you up and take you to the office,” he said. “Hedda should almost be here.”

He gently picked her up in his arms and held her close to him. She relaxed and snuggled into his embrace. Storm could fall asleep in his arms.

“I’ll put you down for a nap in a couple hours,” he said.

“I don’t wanna,” she whined.

She didn’t need a nap. Just because his arms were comfortable and she got sleepy didn’t mean she needed to take a nap.

“Little girls need naps,” he said. “Especially ones that are hurt and still healing. Don’t worry, Mika and Dandy will both be waiting for you.”

Before she could say anything, she heard footsteps behind them.

“Storm!” Hedda yelled. “I can’t wait to talk to you! There is so much to say!”

She chuckled as Daddy sat her down on the couch. Grabbing her chin, she looked into his eyes.

“You behave,” he said. “I’ll be back in a couple of minutes to check in with you guys.”

“Okie dokie,” she responded.

She didn’t know what she was going to do that would be misbehaving. She couldn’t move fast or really do anything.

“We’ll behave. Don’t worry about us!” Hedda said.

Daddy turned toward Hedda and shook his head.

“You’re trouble. When Storm is with you, you have a way of sucking her into things,” he said.

“I would fucking never!” Hedda said.

“You forced her to go to my birthday party,” he said. “And I have no doubt you’ve probably forced her to do other things.”

Storm watched as Hedda opened and closed her mouth several times. She couldn’t help but giggle.

“I’ll be back later,” he said. “Have fun, but don't do anything bad or that would get you into trouble.”

Storm nodded her head and watched as he closed the door behind him. She turned back to Hedda who was now sitting on the chair in front of his desk.

“What did you want to talk about?” Storm asked.

“Nothing,” she responded.
