Make things weird.

“Look at me,” Hedda said, touching her shoulder.

Storm looked at her and gave her a tired smile. “I’m okay. I’m just tired because I’m getting over being sick.”

That’s what she kept telling herself. It wasn’t because Miles told her he never wanted to see her again.

“Are you sure? You know you can talk to me, right?” Hedda said.

“I’m…” Storm let out a breath. “I’m sure. And I know you’re here for me.”

“I know there is more going on than you just being sick, but whenever you want to talk, you let me know and I’ll be here for you.”

Storm nodded her head and put the last of the books away before turning toward Hedda.

“Let me clock out and grab my stuff so we can go,” she said.

“I’ll be waiting out by the door.”

Storm walked to the back of the bookstore, clocked out, and grabbed her stuff before she started making her way toward the front.

Taking a deep breath in, Storm held it for a moment before slowly letting it out. She was exhausted and just wanted to go home to Mika, but knew if she didn’t go with Hedda, she would know something was definitely up and not right.

Not something Storm wanted.

All she could imagine was how awkward it would be if Hedda found out what Miles had said to her. What if she found out Storm had a small crush on Miles? That she felt this connection she couldn’t explain and felt heartbroken?

Awkward.

Storm would lose the only friend she had in New York, and she didn’t want that to happen. Her small interactions with Hedda were amazing and just what she normally needed each day.

Being an introvert wasn’t easy by any means, especially with a friend who was an extrovert and wanted to do everything and anything. Storm had gotten by with not doing a lot, but Hedda had forced her to go to the birthday party.

She went over to Hedda’s house a couple times a week to hang out with her and it was always amazing. They hung out, played with their stuffies, watched movies, and talked.

Storm didn’t want those to stop if Hedda found out what happened between her and Miles.

Maybe nothing would happen, but Storm didn’t want to find out.

“Are you ready to go?” Hedda asked as Storm walked up to the front door.

“Yeah,” she replied.

“Do you need anything at your house?”

“No. I don’t think I can stay the night tonight. I have a couple things I need to do at my apartment before I go to work tomorrow.”

It was a partial lie but she didn’t think Hedda caught on. Storm did have a couple of things that needed to get done, but it wasn’t anything major that had to be done right away.

“That’s okay. We can just chill, watch a Disney movie, eat chocolate, and drink hot chocolate.”

“That sounds amazing.”

And it really did. She loved chocolate and hot chocolate while watching any type of movie.

Storm got into her car and followed Hedda all the way to her house. It wasn’t a far drive, but it was in the opposite direction of where Storm lived.

Hedda lived in a huge, three-story house. It was boring and bland inside, the opposite of what Hedda was. Storm didn’t understand why she lived there, especially when she lived by herself, but she hadn’t asked questions.
