It seemed wise not to when she first visited and then it never came up. Storm had wondered if she was being forced to live there, but Hedda seemed happy.

“Come on girl!” Hedda yelled as she got out of her car. “I’ll get the hot chocolate and chocolates. You set up the movie and grab blankets!”

Storm made her way into the house after Hedda and looked around. Nothing had changed at all. She didn’t think it would but at some point, Storm was expecting Hedda to add her own flair to make it her own.

Storm went to the closet near the living room and grabbed the four soft blankets they always used before making her way back to the living room. Those blankets made them feel like they were floating on super soft snuggly clouds.

“What do you want to watch?” Hedda called out from the kitchen.

“Disney?” she replied.

Storm knew it was a safe bet with Hedda to say Disney. Hedda loved Disney and could watch any movie they had over and over and wouldn’t tire of it.

“Mulan, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, or Sleeping Beauty?” Storm asked before Hedda could respond.

“Beauty and the Beast!” came the reply.

Storm grabbed the CD from the stand and placed it into the DVD player.

“I’ve got the drinks and chocolate,” Hedda said as she walked into the room with the tray in her hands.

Steam rose from the cups of hot chocolate. They looked so amazing with the marshmallows on top. Storm grabbed a cup once Hedda placed it on the coffee table and sat down on the couch. She pulled a blanket over her legs and settled in.

“Thank you,” Storm said.

“You’re welcome.” Hedda replied. “I can’t wait to watch this.”

Storm laughed and nodded her head. She couldn’t wait to watch either, even though she had seen it over one hundred times. It never got old.

The opening credits started to play and they both quieted and started to watch.

CHAPTER TWELVE

STORM

Storm woke the next day even more exhausted than the previous day. She had stayed up way too late at Hedda’s house and still had to drive back to hers. Next time, she was either going to stay over or leave earlier.

Just as she was waking up, Storm had received a threatening text message.

We’re coming for you. Watch your back.

That was all it had said, and Storm didn’t think it was real. She didn’t know anyone in the city, besides Miles and Hedda, but Miles didn’t want anything to do with her. So, it couldn’t be him, right?

It didn’t make any sense so Storm had ignored it. It was probably just a prank text that young kids were doing these days. She had gotten some before she moved to New York, so it wasn’t out of the norm.

Everything was getting to Storm. She felt weird, like she was in a funk. All she wanted to do was sleep and nothing else.

Miles telling her he wanted nothing to do with her shouldn’t have had this much of an effect on her, but it had. Storm kept telling herself it hadn’t but as the days went on and she felt better from being sick, it was the only logical explanation.

Part of Storm thought the message could have come because of Miles. He seemed to be in some shady business, or so she thought. The people he hung around, or were at his birthday party, didn’t look like good people.

They looked like thugs and people who could seriously deliver pain or make someone disappear if they did something wrong. What would happen if she did something wrong?

Was that what happened? What could she have done for this to happen?

Storm’s first thought was hanging out with Hedda, but she would have known if something was up. Miles would have told Hedda not to hang out with her if he didn’t want her to. Doesn’t mean Hedda would have followed his instructions, but if Miles didn’t want them hanging out, he could have threatened Storm.

Maybe that was why she’d gotten the message.
