“I promise I don't know anything,” she sobbed.

She let her head hang to the right, getting tired of holding its weight up. Everything in her wanted to let her head hang back but she knew if she did, it was going to hurt even more. Her neck would be strained, and it wouldn't forgive her at that moment.

Her next best option was putting it on her shoulder to try and give it some support but also let it relax.

“I think you're lying to me,” Richard said. “I had people following him for days and he went to your house and stayed there for a couple days. You went to his house before for his birthday party. He came to your workplace the day after his party and talked to you alone.”

She cried harder because she knew no matter what she said, he wasn't going to believe her. So many times she’d tried to tell him, promising she didn't know Miles that well, but each time he just seemed to get madder and madder and not believe her.

At one point she had thought he was playing her to see if she changed her answer. Richard had said he had done research on her before kidnapping her, but it only seemed like he did a tiny bit of research. Maybe if he went further, he would have realized she had only been in New York for a couple of months and had no contact with Miles before his birthday party.

But she didn't know if that would have helped. He could have thought she had just kept it a great secret until she moved there. Richard could have come up with several different reasons for why.

Before she could respond, a woman entered the room and walked toward Richard. She bent down and whispered in his ear.

Storm would have done everything to hear what she had to say. It seemed like it was important and urgent.

Richard chuckled as the woman stepped away from him and looked at her.

“It seems like your boyfriend figured out where we're holding you,” he said. “It looks like it's your lucky day… or maybe it isn't.”

She tried to wrap her brain around what he just said. It was her lucky day but it wasn't? What did he mean by that?

“It's time for us to say goodbye for now,” he said.

Everything in Storm hoped they would never see each other again. She had no desire to see this evil person again. The things he had done to her were pure evil.

“What do you want me to do with her?” the guard that punched her asked.

Richard looked at her for a second before he moved his eyes up and down, almost like he was taking in everything. She hoped he would just leave and let her be as is, but she knew it wasn't that simple. He had something up his sleeve even though she didn't know him that well.

“Leave her where she is,” he said.

He must have seen her shocked face because he chuckled and tilted his head to the side. Right then, she wished she was better at hiding her emotions because with that chuckle, a deep dread filled her stomach.

Something bad was going to happen.

“If you make it out of this alive, I'll definitely see you again,” he said. “If you don't, well, too bad. I would have loved to torture you a little bit more.”

A shiver ran through her body. She hoped she would never see him again.

She watched as Richard reached behind him with his right arm before he pulled it back around and held a gun in front of her. Her heart stopped beating for a second and all the air in her lungs left.

Before she could say or do anything, he pulled the trigger and a loud bang sounded throughout the room. Pain erupted on her left side and a scream slipped past her lips.

“Hopefully we'll meet again,” he said before he walked out of the room.

The pain intensified and Storm made the mistake of slowly lifting her head and looking down. Her shirt on the left side was covered with blood and it looked like it was soaking in more as the seconds went on.

Storm's vision went in waves and she quickly looked away, trying to think of something else. She blinked several times as her vision started to show black spots in it.

Miles was coming for her, but she didn’t know if he was close or not. Everything in her hoped he was because she didn’t want to die. She wanted to live her life.

But that didn’t seem to be in her life plan because the darkness started to pull at her and before she knew it, she was out.
