“I had no clue it was there,” she whispered. “I’ve looked at it several times a day but didn’t think anything about it. I was looking for an actual camera or a small device that would be a camera.”

“I would, too, if I was in your situation,” she said. “I’ve been in this house several times and anytime I’m Little, he’ll leave that in the room in case something happens. Which rarely happens since I’m not normally Little around him.”

Storm wanted to ask about that. They were best friends, but were they something more at some point? She didn’t think so, but a person never knew until they asked.

“How were the past couple of days for you?” she asked. “Really, how were they? There aren’t any guards that can hear.”

Storm was glad for that. She didn’t want any of the guards listening in and reporting back to Miles anything she said. She wouldn’t be able to keep anything a secret if that was the case.

“He’s taken care of me but then leaves,” Storm said. “I’m confused and I don’t want to be. There is so much going on and I just don’t know what to make of it all. I want to leave.”

But at the same time, she didn’t, but Storm didn’t voice that. She didn’t know how Hedda would take it. She knew she would do anything to help her, but her mind was slowly following her body and wanted to stay here.

There were some red flags that popped up, but part of her didn’t care that much. He was charming and took good care of her. Yes, he did work for the mafia and that was major, really major, but she found herself not really caring.

“But?” Hedda asked. “There’s a but in there.”

She didn’t know how Hedda always knew when she was holding things back. It was like her super power to know or something because this wasn’t the first time.

“But I don’t know anymore.”

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

STORM

“What do you mean?” Hedda asked.

Storm took a deep breath and tried to relax on the couch. There weren't a lot of positions that she felt comfortable in, especially with the stitches on her stomach tugging anytime she moved. Her side stitches didn’t bother her anymore.

The stitches didn’t bother her when she was laying down, but she didn’t want to be laying down the whole time. Storm had also heard if a person laid down in one spot for too long, they would get sores.

She didn’t want to have that happen.

“I don’t know if I want to leave anymore. My mind and body are at war right now,” Storm replied.

“Do you want to talk about it more?” Hedda asked. “I don’t want to make you uncomfortable, but I also know sometimes when we talk about things, it makes us feel better or able to process everything.”

Storm didn’t know about that. She knew Hedda could keep a secret, but would she? Miles was her best friend and she knew people told their best friends everything, even when they weren’t supposed to.

“I don’t know,” she whispered.

“That’s fine,” Hedda said. “And just to let you know, what you tell me I’ll keep a secret. I mean, if it’s something about you harming yourself or thinking about it, I will tell someone, but I don’t think you’re going to endanger yourself. If you are still thinking about leaving, I’ll help you, but I would wait until after Richard is killed so you don’t have to worry about him coming after you.”

Her shoulders sagged as Hedda finished talking. She was glad to hear if she told her anything, she would keep it a secret if it wasn’t endangering herself.

“He’s been really nice to me,” she whispered. “He’s been taking care of me, and also given me space, well kind of space. I’m pretty sure if Richard wasn’t still out there, he would be watching me pretty close.”

A shiver ran through her at that thought. She thought it was bad now, him knowing any time she wanted to move or do anything, but what if Richard wasn’t out there? It would be so much worse.

She had no doubt about that.

“Oh, definitely,” Hedda replied. “I know once he finds Richard, you’ll be in for it for a while.”

“I know,” she softly said. “Maybe I should leave before?”

Right after she said that, a knot appeared in her stomach. It didn’t feel right that she would leave. It just didn’t sit well with her.

“I don’t think it bothers you that much,” Hedda said.
