“You’re doing so good, Stormy,” Daddy said. “Continue to squeeze my hand.”

She continued squeezing his hand. Tears were still streaming down her face as she felt every time the needle went into her skin.

“Angelo,” she heard her Daddy say. “You need to hurry. She’s getting weaker.”

“We’re almost done,” Angelo said.

She didn’t know how much longer she would last or how much more Angelo had to go. The pain was so bad, and Storm felt her body growing weaker and weaker.

“Done!” Angelo said.

Storm rolled her head over to her Daddy and snuggled into his arm. She just wanted to sleep right now. Everything ached and she knew if she fell asleep, she wouldn’t feel the pain anymore.

“Let’s get her to the compound,” Angelo said. “Quickly!”

She felt Daddy let go of her hand and pull away. A small cry fell from her lips.

“Daddy,” she whimpered. “No leave.”

A tiny sob wracked Storm’s body. She didn’t want her Daddy to leave her. She wanted him here with her, holding her.

The only thing Storm could hear were her little cries in the room. It was like everyone had left her here alone. She so badly wanted to open her eyes, but when she tried, it felt impossible.

“D-Daddy?” she cried out.

She felt hands under her legs and back, picking her up and holding her against a broad chest.

“Daddy has you. Stay awake for Daddy.”

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN

MILES

Miles held Storm’s hand as he sat in the chair. It had been thirty minutes since they’d arrived at the compound and hooked her up to get blood. She had stayed awake for the short drive and had been able to drink some chocolate milk.

But Storm was fast asleep now.

Angelo said it was normal for a person to fall asleep after losing so much blood and going through yet another traumatic event. He said she should wake up soon since she stayed awake and drank a glass of chocolate milk before falling asleep.

It didn’t help ease the worry in his gut.

How did the package make it through the guards and to her? He had no doubt Richard had sent the package to her. Richard seemed obsessed with her, and it didn’t sit well with Miles at all.

Before they left his house, Storm had called him Daddy. He had looked up at Angelo and Hedda in shock. At first, he thought he’d heard wrong but then she called him that again.

He was at loss for words. Miles knew she wasn’t happy when he initially said she was his, but at that moment, he hadn’t cared. She was his.

He didn’t know how long it was going to take her to get used to the idea of being his and had secretly hoped it wouldn’t be long. He also knew she didn't want to be at his house, but it was for her own safety.

Richard was still out there and Miles had gotten word he was looking for her. He wasn’t about to let Richard take her again. It was a mistake for it to happen the first time and it wasn’t about to happen a second time.

Richard would have to go through Miles first before he got to Storm.

But Miles knew once he found Richard, he would be no match for Miles. He could easily take him out. It was just a matter of finding him. They were so close to finding him and Miles was hoping that with this package, the hunt would be over.

He looked over at Storm and caressed her hand. He was so glad she was okay now. Getting a phone call from Hedda while they were following a lead wasn’t what he wanted. He had hoped nothing would happen while he was gone.

The whole time he was gone, he had been worried. She was still hurt, and he didn’t know if she was fully comfortable at his house yet. He had tried his hardest to make her comfortable, but with Richard still out there, he had to work to find him which split his time.
