“I will. Thanks. You guys are the best girl gang to be part of.”

They waved and left the diner, the sky still dark so early in the morning.

“Becca and I have to get to the bakery,” Mel said with a gentle smile. “We love you.”

“Love you ladies too,” I whispered before I glanced at the clock. “Let me grab my coat and I’ll go with you. I need to check in at the bakery.”

“No, we’ve got the bakery this morning. Go home and take some time, we can handle this,” Becca insisted with a wink.

A thought struck me and I gasped. “Becca! It’s the first Saturday for decorating cookies during family day! The cookies are ready, but I promised I’d be there!”

“Stop,” Becca said, stepping up to me. “I already have the cookies at the farm and I’m picking up the icing this morning. Relax. I’ve done family day with Stephan for months and while we’d love to have you there, we don’t need you there to survive. Okay? You can come any Saturday, so take today to deal with your family. We’ll be fine.”

I bit my lip and nodded, even if I didn’t quite believe her. “I will be there next week.”

Ivy nudged her and motioned with her chin but Becca shook her head slightly. “Take care of yourself first, Indie. The farm will always be there.”

“Aren’t you going to say anything?” Ivy asked. “If you aren’t, I am.”

Becca sighed and I glanced between them. “What?”

“Now is not the time, Ivy,” she said between clenched teeth. “That’s why I didn’t bring it up.”

“Would someone please tell me what’s going on?” I asked, my patience thin after sleeping poorly the night before.

“We set a date for the wedding,” Becca said. She tried and failed to keep her tone informative. I could hear the excitement in her words.

I grabbed her and hugged her again. “That’s so great! What’s the date?”

“Next Friday night,” she croaked, so I released her so she could breathe.

“Like as in less than a week from now?”

She nodded and clapped her hands by her chin, which was so un-Becca like. I was glad she was excited instead of nervous, though. “I talked to Cameron like you suggested and we figured out a way to make it work. We’re going to have Ellis marry us under Bruce Junior on the farm next Friday night. Can you be there as my attendant? Ivy is going to take pictures after the ceremony.”

“I’d be honored,” I promised, hugging her again, but gentler this time. “I’m so happy you’re going to marry Cameron. He must be over the moon.”

“He is,” she agreed, wearing a giant grin. “We’ve had the ceremony planned for months, and while we were going to do it inside the store, it won’t be hard to transition it to the tree grove. Cameron and Stephan are already figuring out ways to light the field and keep us warm.”

I chuckled, but put my hand to my chest. “I bet they’re loving every minute of it. I’m so happy for you. Just tell me what you need and it will be done. We need to find you a dress!”

“Nope,” she said, her head shaking. “I don’t do well with dresses.” She motioned at her leg. “I can’t risk stepping on it with my prosthesis and not realizing it. I could get all twisted up and fall. I found a pantsuit online that’s white. Want to see it?”

“Duh!” I said, laughing. It felt so good to laugh and be happy about something again.

She dug out her phone and opened the pictures, turning it so I could see it. “Ivy said it was perfect for my height and build. I have a brand-new pair of white boots to wear with it.”

“It’s gorgeous,” I agreed, holding the phone in my hand. “I absolutely love it and it’s so you. You’re going to get cold during the ceremony, though.”

She grimaced and accepted her phone back. “I’m worried about that, too. It should be short, though, right?”

“You know,” I said, a memory coming to mind. “I have a long, white winter coat with fur trim, in my closet.”

“Why?” Ivy asked, her head tipped in confusion. “That doesn’t seem like something you’d wear often.”

“You’re right,” I agreed, nervously shifting my feet. “Would you hang on just a second?” I asked, holding up my finger and they all nodded.

I jogged to the kitchen where Lance was working and he waved when he saw me. “Hey, Gumdrop. Are you okay?” he asked, brushing his thumb down my cheek.
