A husband. And a family. I had people and many of those people are still alive.

Once Lenny is protected and his future is secure, can I go back to my family? Do I want to?

"That explains how you knew what was going on last night without having it explained to you." Zeus measures me with his gaze. "Does Atlas know?"

"Do I really need to answer that? If he knew, so would you."

An odd expression goes over his face, like maybe he's not sure of that.

Wishful thinking. I won't indulge in it. Atlas lied to me. He used me, I remind myself.

He's 100% on his brother's side in all this.

"What is your supposed failsafe?" Zeus asks again.

There's nosupposedabout it. If his mafia was better established in their territory, they might risk it, but not when they're getting up and running.

"In the event of my death or disappearance, the original of these documents will be delivered to the don." I put the manila envelope onto his desk.

The originals are with a firm of lawyers with whom I have weekly check in protocols. If I don't contact them via our agreed upon method, they send those documents to Don De Luca in New York, a man powerful enough to guarantee Lenny's safety.

"What are these documents?" There is no mistaking the anger in his tone now.

"You can read them for yourself." I indicate the envelope he will have to reach across his giant desk to get.

I won't be moving it closer to him. I'm not in an accommodating mood.

"You tell me."

I roll my eyes at his domineering order, but in the interest of expediency, I comply. "First, there is a letter explaining Lenny's whereabouts and copies of his diagnosis and treatment plan from an eminent neurologist."

Zeus makes a continue motion with his hand.

"Second, there is a witnessed and notarized will that leaves the club and any of my assets in a trust for Lenny, administered by the don."

His eyes narrow at this, but Zeus doesn't say anything.

"Last, there is an enduring power of attorney for all business matters related to the club and Lenny. Whether I disappear or die, the don will have legal claim to Nuovi Inizi."

"You believe we would disappear you?" Zeus asks, clearly offended.

Too bad. So sad. Send your brother in to seduce a woman into spilling information and making herself vulnerable to racketeering, and that woman doesn't trust your intentions toward her.Shocking.

Zeus shakes his head when I don't bother to answer what should be a rhetorical question. "My brother may want to chain you to his bed, but he won't do it."

Memories of the times Atlas handcuffed me to my own bed assail me. He made good use of the handcuffs he bought after he tied my hands to feed me up in his suite.

It takes all my mafia princess training to stifle my reaction to the x-rated movies playing in my head.

"If the don receives these documents, it will give him and the Cosa Nostra a foothold in your territory. Something your Hades Brotherhood cannot want right now."

Zeus doesn't look worried. Even a little.

I narrow my eyes and study him. No, not even a tiny tell to show my failsafe concerns him. Why?

"You want me to believe you put all of this in place since last night?" he asks derisively answering mywhy.

"You think I'm bluffing." I nod toward the envelope. "Look inside. You'll see I'm not."
