"I don't need to. You're a smart woman. I'm sure you did your best to make the documents appear legally binding, but there was no time between last night and this morning to get them witnessed and notarized, much less set up to be delivered to a Cosa Nostra don."

My hand tightens on the gun and I have to force myself to relax my hold. No matter how pleasurable I might find shooting Zeus, I'm not going to.

Unless I have no other choice. "You're making a dangerous assumption, especially if you believe I'm as smart as you say."

"What's that?"

"That I wouldn't have set this up already."

He shakes his head. "It's a good bluff, but I don't believe you. This little drama isn't necessary regardless."

Little drama, my ass.

Shooting him is becoming morenecessaryby the second. Not for my safety, but to assuage my anger.

How angry would Atlas be if I shot his brother? I don't have to kill Zeus. Maybe maim him a little. And why the hell do I care what Atlas will think?

Zeus stands up and comes around the desk. He leans against it right in front of me. "Your club is in my territory and you will do what I say. If that means laundering money, you will do it. If that means running whores out of your back room, you will do that too."

The kid gloves are off and instead of being afraid, a sense of power courses through me. It's the familiarity of it all. He has no idea who he is dealing with. I might have been a naïve fool with his brother, but I'm no pushover. I was raised in the mafia, not the suburbs.

"No. I won't." I stand up and glare at him, moving until I'm out of striking range before revealing the gun in my hand.

Chapter 36

LUCIA

"What the fuck, Lucia? Put that away." Atlas's voice comes from the door.

I swiftly move back so I can cover both brothers. "I won't ask how you got here so fast. I don't care. Go stand by your brother."

"You're not going to shoot me." Instead of doing as I said, Atlas standsbetweenme and Zeus.

Taking a two-handed grip to steady the gun, I aim at his torso. "I won't shoot to kill, but I will incapacitate you." I drop the aim a few inches. "Or maybe I will castrate you, stop you from seducing other women into being your dupe."

"I think she means it brother," Zeus says. "Right now, she's less likely to shoot me."

I nod. "Youranaxis right, but that doesn't mean I won't shoot him. Now move further away from me, Atlas. If you rush me, I will pull the trigger and I won't be aiming to wound."

"You are hot with a gun in your hand, eromenis mou."

"I am not your lover. Not anymore."

"We'll have to agree to disagree." He sounds so darn complacent. I'm tempted to shoot him just because.

Atlas must see something in my face because he moves closer to Zeus. He still keeps his body between me and his brother though.

Protecting the boss. It's what a good soldier does.

"Do not make the mistake of thinking that because I fell for your brother's lies, that I am weak," I say to Zeus, ignoring Atlas acting like a wall between us. "I put the failsafe in place the week after I opened the club so that Lenny would always be taken care of."

"What do you think, brother? Is she bluffing?" Zeus asks Atlas.

I expect Atlas to ask what about, but he doesn't. He looks at me, trying to read my sincerity. My honesty about this is not something I need to hide. I let him see my sincerity as well as my hurt anger at his betrayal.

Atlas winces. "It seems like she's telling the truth, but she could be lying. She hid her affiliation with the Cosa Nostra from me."

My brows furrow. "How…"
