"Right." Her voice drips sarcasm. "Until they get arrested during a raid by the vice squad."

I remember what Zeus said to her about running sex workers out of the club. He was pissed, but he still shouldn't have said it.

"We'll use the strip clubs to run the a la carte sex trade," I inform Lucia with a glare for my brother. "We only use our nightclubs for the escorts to meet their client dates, fortheirsafety. Transactions are never done on site."

"That's not what Zeus said."

"He was angry and pushing your buttons." My brother doesn't like his authority questioned.

He barely tolerates it from me and Orion.

If I know my brother, Zeus is angry that Lucia rejected me last night too. Even if he told me it served me right for letting my softer emotions rule me.

I told him to fuck off. There's nothing soft about what I feel for Lucia. It's hard, raw and primal.

Zeus does not need to protect me from Lucia or myself. Because I am not letting her go. She isílios mouand I am not going back to the darkness.

"This time he threatened me. What happens the next time youranaxgets angry? Maybe he drops me in it. I'm not going to let that happen." She sounds tired.

She was restless last night until I joined her on the bed. She thinks I came in there for my own sake, because of the short sofa, but I heard every toss and turn of her body.

Worried she would not get enough rest, I laid down beside her and took her into my arms. She settled immediately after that. No matter what she thinks she knows about me, her body trusts mine.

Her mind needs to get on board though. Or things are going to get awkward with the whole pregnant with my baby thing.

"That will never happen," I tell her. "You need to trust me to take care of you."

She stares at me with rampant disbelief. "You cannot be serious. Ido nottrust you and that isn't going to change now. Because now I know what you are and if there's one thing I've learned about made men, it's that I can't trust you to put my safety first."

"Who taught you that?" Zeus asks, mining for information.

That's myanax. Always looking for an angle to use. What he hasn't figured out yet is that I'm not going to let him use any angles against my woman.

"Besides your brother?" Lucia asks drily.

"Yes, besides Atlas."

I'm glad my brother doesn't try to argue that Lucia can trust me. She's stubborn and him getting in her face about it will only solidify her position.

She shrugs, her hand pressing against her stomach. "Who didn't?"

The nausea is getting worse. I need to look up remedies. Or take her to the doctor today. Yes, that's a better idea. They'll make time for her at the clinic.

The head of the clinic started his practice in L.A. with a loan fromÁdis Adelfótita. He knows the importance of not crossing my family.

"That's not an answer," my brother pushes.

I stand up. "Leave it." I cross the room to Lucia. I can't watch her struggle with discomfort from a distance.

"I don't owe you an answer," she says to Zeus, pretending not to notice my approach.

That's better than her running away.

"Tell me anyway."

"That's something else you Rokos men have in common. You're all pushy." She looks at me now, censure glinting in her brown gaze.

"Then you know you might as well answer my question."
