I have a lot of questions for the doctor.

"It's not a secret," she huffs. "It's justmybusiness."

"Our business." Lucia will not cut me out of our child's life, or her own.

Though I don't expect it to be easy to convince her of that. She took learning I am the head enforcer for our mafia badly. She never needs to know about my job as top assassin for theÁdis Adelfótita.

"Fine.Ourbusiness. Butnotyour jerk of a brother's."

Her easy acceptance that I have an interest in her pregnancy loosens something in my chest that has been tight since the night before. "I thought you liked my brother."

"I did. He's a grump, but I liked Zeus." Sadness permeates her tone. "Before. Now, I know he never saw me as anything but a source of income and information. Like you."

I promised myself I would be patient with her, but this shit has got to stop. "I never said that."

"You didn't have to. Your actions said it for you. So did theirs. Zeus showed his true colors today."

"My brother is a short-tempered asshole on his best days." He used to be the charming one. Before the bratva killed his fiancée. "Today was not one of them. You blackmailed him into taking over the cost of Leonardo's care and it pissed him off. How did you expect him to act?"

Me promising to kill him if he told Don Russo about Leonardo's whereabouts, and by default Lucia's, only turned a bad mood into a vile one. But Zeus grudgingly admitted his threat was empty. He has no plans to tell the don.

"Oh, poor Zeus, having to do something he didn't want to. I wouldn't begin to know how that feels." She crosses her arms and stares out the window away from me.

"We all do things we don't want to,ílios mou."

"I'm not your sun."

"You bring warmth and light into my world even when you're mad at me."

"Stop saying stuff like that."

"No."

We drive in silence for a few minutes before she sighs. "I thought your brothers liked me too; it hurts to know it was all an act. Orion reminded me of Rocco and for a little bit I didn't feel so alone."

"My brothers do like you."

"You all put on a good show, I'll give you that."

Is her stubborn insistence on attributing the darkest motives possible to our actions from pregnancy hormones, or is it Lucia? My woman does have a temper and there's no signs of it cooling since last night.

Only time is going show her how wrong she is. "You said Rocco is dead."

Did she lie to me?

We know about the Revellos because they owned clubs that got taken over by the bratva. Information is power and we keep tabs on key players. That Tino Revello's wife and brother died in an explosion after his clubs got taken is also in our files. Who his wife was is not.

Now, I know it is Lucia. But I don't know what family in the Detroit Cosa Nostra she comes from. She's too smart to have gone back to her maiden name. That would make her too easy to track down.

"I didn't lie, but no, Rocco isn't dead. I said my brother is lost to me, like my parents. Which they are. I couldn't keep in contact with them and get Lenny away from the backward thinking mafia. My father would have insisted on Grandfather Revello making the decisions for Lenny's care."

"It's the way families like ours work. And you gave yours up to make sure Leonardo gets the treatment you think he needs. Why?" The promise she made to a dead man doesn't cut it.

"The day I lost the baby was as traumatic for Lenny as it was for me. He wanted me to have that baby so bad. Even more than Tino. He talked to my stomach all of the time. It destroyed him when his actions led to me losing the baby."

"How did he know they did?"

"He has the mind of a twelve-year-old, not a two-year-old. He lacks maturity and impulse control, but he can put two and two together. If he hadn't, his father made sure he knew. Agustino Sr. thought it would help Lenny control his rages to know what they cost the family. All it did was ensure that Lenny was as hurt by the outcome of that day as I was."
