"But we are not normal," he points out.

"I don't care. In this, we are as normal as they get. I'm not getting marched down the aisle under duress and speaking vows I don't mean like with so many mafia marriages."

"Is that how you ended up married to Tino?"

"No. But it happened to my cousin. I wanted to marry Tino, but that was before."

"Before what?"

"Before I knew you existed in the world."

His face reflects his shock. "That is not what I expected you to say."

"The love I feel for you is intense and consuming, so much bigger than the crush I had on my first husband."

Love is not the sweet, gentle emotion I thought it was when I married Tino. It is powerful and sometimes dark, sometimes overwhelming. And always protective. At least that's how mine and Atlas's love is and that's the only love that matters to me.

He pulls a dark blue ring box with gold lettering in Greek from his pocket. I suck in suddenly desperately needed air. Opening the box, he holds it out to me.

The diamond is blindingly large.

Blinking away emotion filled tears, I say, "They'll be able to see that rock from space."

"As long as the men on planet Earth can see it and pay attention to what it means, no one has to die."

Of course, he goes there. "Maybe dial that back a notch. I'm pretty sure you don't need to kill someone for hitting on me."

"Agree to disagree."

I shake my head, my gaze locked on that ring. "You're so possessive."

"You are just realizing that?"

"No, but that ring." I shake my head. "It's huge. We could buy a house for what it cost you."

I'm a mafia princess. I know what a diamond of that quality costs.

He shrugs, not denying my claim and I groan. "How wealthy is your family?"

No wonder he is able to offer to buy the club back for me.

"Rich enough, but I'll use my own money to provide our home."

Oh, I hit a nerve with that. I didn't mean to though.

I hug Atlas. Hard. "The house is beautiful, and I love that you talked to Elaine about what I wanted. How long will it take to build?"

"It will be finished in four months."

"That soon?"

"Money talks, among other things."

"Tell me you didn't threaten to kill anyone."

"I didn't threaten to kill anyone." His face gives nothing away.

"Really?"
