They are a year younger than Jensen and literally inseparable. Skylar's mother didn’t want her working as a teen, school was supposed to be her only focus, but she simply had to. I was next to her when she put her mom on a speaker and whined ‘But mom, Isaiah is working here, I can’t leave him alone to deal with Noah’, and for some reason it worked.

They say they are best friends, but I see right through them. The stolen glances, subtle smiles, and completely blurred lipsticks once in a while.

Walking through the rows of guitars I hear muffled sounds coming from the drum room.

‘I think I heard something’

‘No, you didn’t’

‘Shhh, let me hear’

‘Let me kiss you’

‘Kiss me’

I loudly clear my throat just outside the door. I don’t want to seem like a creep, but I need tosomehowlet them know that they are not alone anymore.

“Oh shit.” Sky says, as she scrambles out of the door, fixing her school skirt.

“Oh shitis the perfect choice of words,” I say, ruffling her purple hair.

“Hi, Noah,” Ice whispers, putting his tie back in place.

I reach over and fix his glasses. His face screws up in horror. It makes a round of laughter bubble out of my chest. Poor nerdy kid. Sky has him whipped.

“You remember how I saidno funny business at work?”

They nod in unison, but Sky chuckles. The rebel in her amazes me. She reminds me of me when I was a teen.

“Something you want to say, Skylar?” I ask, lifting an eyebrow.

“We weren’t doing funny business. He is literally my best friend.”

I roll my eyes at her stupid statement.

“Well, I would like to change what I said fromno funny business at worktono funny business at work, but if you’re doing the funny business at work, lock the goddamn door because we could get robbed. Is that clear?”

“Yes, boss man,” Ice says, grabbing Skylar’s hand and pulling her towards the storage room.

I laugh to myself. Freaking young love. I know it when I see it.

“Okay. Glad you understood me. Clean the floors and put out new guitar picks and stuff before school.” I yell after them. “And dust the whole place! That’s a punishment.”

Another ‘yes, boss man’echoes through the store, just as Matilda walks in.

“What happened?”

“Caught them making out in the drum room.”

“Oh. Okay.”

“What does that mean?” I say, my eyes saucer-wide.

“They do it all the time, teen love, babe,” she laughs and hands me my coffee. “You just didn’t notice because you are in your office, doing paperwork all the time.”

“I am going to pretend I never heard that, and go back to my paperwork.” I smile at her, stepping into my office and closing the door behind me.
