Ronan startles me from my thoughts, running a gentle hand down my chest, from behind.

“Oh, that’s an interesting one,” she says. “She falls in love with her stalker so hard.”

“I noticed.” I smirk, looking up at her. “Are you any better?”

“Yes, I feel okay. I took the pill you left for me. Thank you, baby.”

I pull her hand and make her sit in my lap. I try to resist, but my hands immediately go to hug her curves and caress her tummy. I love how soft she is. I love how pliant her body is.

She takes my coffee from the table in front of us and takes a sip. Disgust paints her face, but she keeps drinking in big, fast gulps.

“You sure like the taste of poison.”

“I like the taste of you more.” I kiss the skin on her shoulder.

“Oh, you flirt!” She slaps me playfully. “I am sorry for ruining your night.”

Here we go again. I have no idea how many times I already told her it was not ruined, but she keeps pushing. I have no idea why she feels this way at all. This guilt. It must have come from the way Christine treated her thought years.

“Ronan, Ljubavi, just stop. Please?”

“I just wish everything was perfect.”

“You are.”

She looks at me, shy all of a sudden. She really is perfect. She has to believe me. I need to make her believe me.

“Dad called me. He woke me up. He wants to see me.”

“What? Really? Is he coming here?” I ask excitedly. I see the sparkles in her eyes, this means the world to her. She thought she lost him, and she finally got him back.

“No, he asked me to come over and meet the family.” Her brows furrow as she looks at me. “But we can’t afford two tickets.”

“I don’t plan on leaving ‘till I die of old age, there’s plenty of time for me to meet your family.”

“In a way, you are also my family. You were my stepbrother a month ago,” she winks wickedly.

“Technically, I still am. They never signed the divorce papers. Good thing you never got stuck in the washing machine.”

We burst out laughing at the cheesy joke. The high pitch of her laughter echoes through the space, warming this apartment and making it a home. Loud noises wake up our kitten and she happily struts towards us, wiggling on the way over. Ronan picks her up and heads for the kitchen.

I watch her talk to Toma like she’s human, and I swear to God, the cat understands.

As night falls, I realize I spent a whole day next to Ronan, reading a book. It’s been a while since I let myself indulge in any type of literature. It caused jealousy to cook inside of my stomach, because I couldn’t make any.

At some point, Ronan orders pizza for us, and we greedily devour it in a matter of minutes. She completely recovers from the night before, and even decides to take a walk and stretch her legs.

I use that time to check my email, and am greeted with a confirmation of my earlier over-the-phone order. A rush takes over my body, and I need to share it with someone, so I send a quick text to Tiana.

I’m gonna get married, Tia.

What the fuck?

Her response makes me laugh out loud.

I ordered a ring. It’s coming in april.
