“Do you know what medication she needs?”

Another nod, this time followed by a brow furrow. She knew the medication by heart, and she told him so.

Taryn let go of her tear-stained cheeks and swiped one long finger down his other forearm. Instantly, the fire veins flickered and a comm bracelet appeared. It was sleeker and thinner than the human ones–and, apparently, invisible unless needed–but she could recognize this kind of device.

The bracelet pinged. Taryn began talking in short, abrupt sentences, in a coded language Leah couldn’t understand. In less than thirty seconds, he swiped his finger again, and the bracelet disappeared.

“The entrance to your Nana’s room will be guarded from now on,” he said. “The treatment for her ailment will be tracked down and given to her tomorrow at the latest. She will be alright.”

“Wait, what?” She blinked up at him. “How?”

“We have our own liaisons on Earth,” he said with a smirk. “Everything will be alright.”

Leah didn’t think her heart could swell so hard and fast. Taryn had solved the problem with one call. One. And if he said the issue was taken care of, then it was.

All the wretched weight of responsibilities and worries had been instantly lifted off her shoulders. They’d tortured her on the way to Quillon. They’d tortured her once she’d landed. Now, she’d been set free.

All because she had mustered up the courage to speak the truth. She didn’t have to carry the problems by herself. She had Taryn right by her side to shoulder some of it.

Before she could stop and second-guess, Leah launched herself into Taryn’s arms.

TARYN

Taryn hadn’t expected such a reaction from Leah, but he was not one to complain his Lightmate was suddenly kissing him senseless.

Each swipe of her tongue made his fangs elongate even further. Every caress of her cold human fingers against his horns made him want to groan.

He wrapped his Ignited hands around her, pulling her up against him until her feet dangled above the grass. He wanted her so impossibly close, it hurt.

The tale she’d told him…A deep, raw need to burn and avenge was pumping through his veins.

Taryn wanted to obliterate whoever this Flint was for threatening his Lightmate and her kin. The Quillon in him couldn’t–wouldn’t–stand such a menace, even if it had passed. As for the Zavorian in him…well, it wanted to rip Flint’s head clean off his shoulders.

Not many beings knew, and Taryn begrudgingly admitted it even to himself, but Zavorians were very protective. Once they began to care for someone, they were willing to risk anything for them.

Nines, his father had gone insane and wreaked havoc on entire planets because of his grief. And he and Taryn’s mother hadn’t even been Lightmates.

Taryn wasn’t particularly proud of the burning emotions inside of him right now, roaring for his enemies’ blood. Which is why he tried, as best he could, to keep his rage from seeping fully into his energy.

He didn’t want Leah to know just how deep his fury ran. Or what he planned to do to the beings who had threatened her once he got his talons near their necks.

For now, she was safe, in his arms. Her Nana was also safe, from the moment he’d placed the instructions with the few humans Quillon trusted back on Earth. The old human would be protected as if Taryn himself was guarding her entrance.

Leah could sense this. He’d felt relief flood her energy, making it come more alive.

Since they’d met, there had been a cloud of guilt and worry clouding it. No more. Her energy was spilling out in all its glory. It was sweet and curious and strong, connecting with his eagerly. It was intoxicating.

She didn’t hide her passion for him, either. Or her trust.

It humbled him, that after all he’d revealed, she wanted nothing more than to feel him. All of him.

“In case I don’t say it enough tonight,” Leah whispered as Taryn swirled his tongue around the lobe of her ear. She liked that. A lot. “Thank you. There are no words, in my language or yours, according to this translator, to say how much I appreciate you taking care of Nana, so…thank you. From the bottom of my heart.”

“The pleasure was all mine,” he said and licked the shell of her ear, delighting in her soft moan. It really did please him to see and feel her so happy and know that he was the one that caused it. Nobody else. Not now, not ever. Leah was his, and his alone, and would forever be.

For this moment, here, with her, they could forget all about secrets and pasts and worries. There were only him and her, in this safe haven that he’d crafted for himself.
