Good, now there’s air again.

I dance through several more songs. Alone, vibing with whoever is around me. All the while, though, I know I have eyes on me. I can feel them searing into my body and I can’t say I hate it.

When I feel like my legs might drop off, I head towards the bar in search of water. Within seconds, my bodyguard appears next to me. I give him the side eye. “You know, you’re borderline stalking me? You should find someone to get rid of all that tension you’re radiating. I’m sure someone will drop to their knees for you,” I mumble angrily.Yeah, like me…No. Not me.

“Are you upset with me?” he asks, his gaze fixed on my face.

“No.”Yes. I don’t know.

“Your face says otherwise. I’ll back off. Promise. I just get a bit overprotective of people who are important to me.”

And how the fuck do I stay mad at him when he says that? The tightness in my chest loosens as I turn to face him. “Okay, maybe I am a little annoyed. But it’s not because of you, it’s me.”

“Classic line.” He smirks, and it’s too sexy, enough to break the scowl on my face. I let a small smile sneak free. “Seriously, it’s a classic for a reason. I don’t need to be protected all the time, but I’m getting in my head.”

Harrison stiffens. “About what?”

Shit. I can’t exactly say ‘because I think I’d like to bang your brains out’, can I?

I wave my hand in front of my face. “I’m fine, really. Please, just go have fun. Don’t stare at me all night because you’re worried about me. I’ve got skills and pepper spray.” I offer a reassuring smile, and he softens slightly.

I think I see a flash of heat in his eyes, but it disappears just as fast. “I happen to like staring at you.” He inhales sharply. “But I’ll back off.” He takes a step away from me, and my first instinct is to follow him.God, my brain couldn’t sabotage me more if it tried.I want space, but I also want to be the centre of his attention. Story of my life.

I nod and watch as he continues to retreat, his deep brown eyes never leaving mine. I know it won’t take long for a woman to fall into his lap with the way he looks tonight, dressed in a dark charcoal shirt that highlights the grey in his hair that makes him look… well, hot as fuck.

I know I just told him to go find someone, but I would prefer if that someone could be me.

It turns out, I’m stupid. Really stupid.

And an attention whore. Who has issues. I’m enough of a grown-up to admit when I’ve made a mistake. Most of the time. Like right now, as I sit across from Harrison and a woman. No, a fucking supermodel. I don’t actually know if she is, but she looks like she should be. Long slender legs, sculpted body, perfect tits, whiter than white teeth. The perfect shade of blonde hair. Everything screams perfect, and I’m annoyed.

Yes, I told him to find someone to release tension with. I just didn’t want to witness it. Yet, here I am. Seething at the situation I put myself in.

The grip around my margarita glass is lethal as she laughs, and as her hand finds his thigh, I almost break a tooth. He’s smiling back at her too, but it’s not like the smiles I’ve had from him. They’re his practiced smiles. Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself.

I need more alcohol. Or a man.

“Zoey, baby!!” Aaron comes barrelling through the crowd to scoop me up and wrap my legs around his waist. “I missed you. Vegas isn’t as fun without my chaos buddy.”

I laugh, wrapping my arms around his neck. He’s weirdly become like another brother to me. Maybe brother isn’t quite right, more like a best friend. He’s fun, we get on, and I feel comfortable around him.

He lowers me to my feet, spinning us to face everyone, but I keep myself pressed to his side. His gaze darts over to the boys as he nods towards them and the women hanging off them. “H-man, Maxxie boy, how’s the selection tonight?”

Max levels him with a glare. “Shut up, man.”

Harrison hasn’t taken his eyes off where Aaron is holding me to his body or how my arms are still wrapped around his neck. His jaw ticks and I smirk. My mountain man is jealous.

I lean into Aaron, staring straight at Harrison. “Dance with me. Let's make that chaos happen, hm?”

Aaron pulls back, following my gaze as he chuckles. “I’ll do anything to get a rise out of our big man. Lead the way, my lady,” he whispers, stepping back and extending his hand for me to take.

Chapter 12

Harrison

Thebeautifulblondepurrssomething in my ear, but I’m finding it difficult to pay attention because Aaron and Zoey have just walked to the dancefloor, looking like they are about to start a mating ritual with how close they are. It’s making my skin itch. Even though I have no claim on Zoey, I’m completely unable to ignore the burning sensation in my chest as his hands roam all over her. I flex my fist at my side, feeling every muscle tighten.

“So, what do you think? Wanna get outta here?” The blonde’s heavy American accent brings me back to reality.
