Macie:Why do you have my letters now? Why did my parents have them in the first place?

McCall:I can’t tell you that. Not yet.

Macie:This is bullshit.

McCall:I know. Believe me, I know.

Macie:I keep watching old videos of him so I can hear his voice. The one where the three of us are on the football field after we won district. Remember that?

McCall:Now who’s traveling down memory lane?

Macie:You two were so drunk. You were laughing at everything.

McCall:I remember. We snuck that whiskey from my dad’s liquor cabinet. I can picture you leaning against Booker’s chest, his lips buried in your neck. The blush on your cheeks. I think I have a copy of that video too. You threw up under the bleachers.

Macie:You threw up too.

McCall:You threw up more.

Macie:Y’all snuck me home.

McCall:I had to toss you over the fence. Then we dragged your giggling ass up that damn oak tree. Booker made me sleep on the floor, he was afraid we’d pushed our luck sneaking in and sneaking back out was asking to get caught. I fell asleep to the disgusting sound of you two making out.

Macie:Good thing you fell asleep. We did way more disgusting things that night.

McCall:You two have always been incorrigible.

Macie:We were. It doesn’t seem real he’ll never speak again.

McCall:I know. It’s weird. I feel dumb mourning the sound of his voice when really I should be thankful he’s alive.

Macie:I’m feeling the same way.

McCall:You kept old videos? You returned everything he ever gave you, but kept actual digital evidence of your love story.

Macie:They auto downloaded onto my laptop.

McCall:We both know you don’t still use your same computer from high school. You kept a dinosaur to keep the videos and pictures.

Macie:Shut it, Detective McCall. I’m not in the mood.

McCall:Simply pointing out the facts.

Macie:Well, stop. You learning sign language?

McCall:Of course I am. You?

Macie:Enrolled in an online class last night.

McCall:Want to meet up for drinks tomorrow? We can practice on each other.

Macie:Yeah. The usual place?

McCall:See you around 8.
