She giggles, and I look down at her. Avery notices and shrugs. “He’s an old army buddy of my brother’s.”

“What the hell are you doing here, Blue?” Fritz asks, walking up to my best friend and giving him a hug.

Trev returns the hug, then he steps back. “Came to see Jon, and I had perfect timing.”

“Hey, guys, we can talk back at the house all about Trev and his real reason for being here.”

The look of alarm on his face has me biting back a chuckle. That is enough to tell me the sister is Fritz’s, and this just got a whole lot more complicated.

Trev nods as people start coming up to us. I think they are getting closer to meet Trev. He’s kind of a celebrity, in a billionaire with lots of money kind of way. They all murmur to Avery and me, telling us to take care, and there were a few thank yous from the LOLs for getting to Avery in time to save her.

We step outside, and I see that Trev has left his car in the covered pickup area. Of course, he just left his car in an area that said no parking. Trevor Smith does what he wants when he wants.

“We’re going to have a talk about your friendship with Trevor. You know that, right?”

“You have to tell me how your brother knows him.”

“Easy, he served with him.”

“And the name?”

“They called him Blueblood when he took over their unit. From what Fritz says, it didn’t take him long to win them over, and they shortened it to Blue.”

“And you know him how?”

“He served with my brother.”

Trevor hears the last part as he joins us outside. “Yeah, and we danced at her brother’s wedding.”

“And Ed’s,” Avery says.

I growl, and they both laugh. I try to frown at both of them but fail. Instead, I smile as Trev starts the car.

“We’ll have a lifetime to discuss Trev and his screwed-up life.”

“I like the sound of that.” I put her in the backseat, then hurry around and slide in beside her. We make it back to her house, with Trevor driving carefully over any bumps in the road. When I help her out of the car, she thanks him.

“No problem. I had a concussion in Iraq. I know they suck.”

She starts to walk, but I lean down to pick her up. “I can walk.”

“Trev, can you give us a sec.”

He nods and heads into the house.

“What’s up? I can’t be easy to hold.”

“It’s you and me.”

“And?”

All of a sudden, I’m nervous. I told her I loved her but didn’t know what would happen. “I feel I should be proposing.”

Her eyes widen. “What? No.”

I frown.

“Sorry. I didn’t mean it to sound like that. What I meant was that we don’t need to work on any timelines. I don’t need a ring on my finger. I just need you. I love you.”
