He leans down ever closer. I can feel his cheek against mine, and his breath is now shivering down my neck.

“It’s the part that drives me crazy.”

“What part is that?”

“It’s the part where I can’t think of anything other than kissing you.”

My entire body goes into overdrive. Heat sears through my blood. “Jon.”

“Yes.”

“Are you insane?”

He chuckles. “I just might be.”

I can’t say anything else. My mind is going into overdrive as we finish out the dance.

When the last strings of the song play out, Jon leans down again. “Don’t overthink it, Avery.”

I blink up at him, but before I can respond, he’s leading me off the floor. Suddenly, I’m unsure about Jon Howard and what to do about him.

ChapterTwenty-Two

Jon

“So, you and Avery, huh?” Nancy says as she steps up next to me.

I glance down at my cousin. “What do you mean?”

“Please, I think everyone got a contact high from watching y’all dancing.”

Yeah, and I haven’t been able to get my hormones to calm the fuck down. I have been attracted to women and danced with them, but my reactions to Avery during and after the dance are off the charts. I have never shared a dance with a woman that left me out of sorts.

When we were on the dance floor, no one else mattered. We were in our little bubble, Swift’s music flowing over us. I could feel Avery’s heartbeat and the way her breath caught when I whispered in her ear. My cock twitches at the memory.

Now, though, I want to beat the shit out of every man in the room. They all seem to think that they can look at Avery, and while I’m pretty sure she isn’t paying attention to them, it irritates the living hell out of me. I toss a few of them nasty looks, which causes Nancy to laugh.

“What?”

“You,” she says, sipping her champagne. “I never thought you would be the kind of guy who went all Neanderthal.”

“What the hell does that mean?”

I know exactly what she’s talking about, but I refuse to admit to it.

“Oh, please, you look like you want to growl at every guy, especially Ford Gold.”

“Why Ford?”

“Well, he’s chatting up your roommate.”

My head whips around, and just like when I saw her talking to Josh, an emotion I can’t fight crowds every bit of my body.

“I don’t care,” I say, but even to my own ears, my words lack conviction.

“Listen, Jon.” She snaps her fingers, and I blink. Tearing my gaze away from Avery and Ford, I look at my cousin.

“What now?”
