"Did you vote?"

She nods, a smile curving her lips.

"You voted for Avery?"

Another nod.

I roll my eyes. "No loyalty."

"Only against the patriarchy. Also, she's a woman, and we are the stronger sex."

"She's got you there. Women kick our asses every day of the week and twice on Sunday," Carter says, chuckling. "Of course, there's more discussion on what is actually going on in the house."

"What the hell does that mean?"

"Well, those pictures from last night are really getting people excited," Carter says. "You did kiss her, right?"

"Carter Phineas Hawthorne," Everly says. "Didn't Syd talk to you about those kinds of questions?" She looks at me. "Sorry, but Carter doesn't always think before he talks."

"Why is it important to you?" Is this another man out for Avery's affection? Another dude who is going to try and steal her away from me?

Wait, is she with me? I mean, we kissed and living together, but are wetogether?

"I'm invested in romance," he says with a shrug, but his eye catches on something at the doorway. His entire expression changes as he smiles. I turn and see a redheaded woman come striding into Nerdvana. She's zeroed in on Carter. She's tall, slender, and there's something vaguely familiar about her. Her pale green eyes hold a wealth of intelligence.

"Phin, what are you doing here? You left while I was sleeping." There's no anger in her voice.

"I kissed you before I left. After the delivery last night, I knew you needed sleep."

"I think I'm the best judge of when I need sleep."

He pulls her into his arms and gives her a smacking kiss. "I knew my brother was trying to finish writing a chapter before we all head to Mom's for dinner. So, I helped out with Esme."

"You stole her from her father, brought her here, and have been bugging me," Everly says.

"My love, this is Estella's grandson Jon. Jon, this is the love of my life, literally, Dr. Piper Abernathy-Hawthorne."

"Nice to meet you."

"Same. Estella is always going on about you. And about Nancy. For the longest time, I thought she only had two grandchildren."

I chuckle. "If you met any of the others, you would understand."

"We've met Monty of the underpants on his head," Carter says. "Are they worse than him?"

"He's amusing. The others are just jerks."

"We're going to miss the meeting tonight," Carter says out of the blue. I blink, trying to follow his direction. Both of the women share a look. He looks troubled by it.

"Yes, but you knew that," Piper says. "It's your father's birthday."

"Oh, right." He leans over and kisses his wife's cheek. "You're so smart." Then he looks at me. "So, how about it, Howard? Tell us you kissed the girl."

"Phin, stop. Jon doesn't seem like the kind of man who would kiss and tell," the doctor says.

I throw his wife a thankful look. Being a Howard, I should be used to the scrutiny, but this is different. I never dated anyone in the town. Wait, I'm not dating her. We're living together. That's it. I might have an itch to explore more than just one kiss, but it's normal.

And, okay, I will admit, I can't think of anything else than her today. I came away with her on my mind. Makes sense since I had to take an extra-long shower last night with my fist around my cock.
