“That’s the one,” Grace said a bit sheepishly.

“You’re going to a strip club?” I asked her.

“It’s not a strip club. It’s a performance. These are professional dancers. They’re actually really good,” Grace argued.

I tried my best to hide my smile, but all I wanted to do was make fun of how absolutely stereotypical they were being by going to a show like that. But I decided to drop the topic because I really didn’t want to think about mostly naked men grinding on my little sister.

“Are you serious? That’s where we’re going?” Ella asked, clearly a few beats behind on the conversation’s progression.

Grace nodded again, and I could see a bit of relief come over her as she realized Ella was clearly excited about this little excursion. I knew there was no hope in talking them out of it, and I definitely didn’t want to invite myself to tag along with them. I just had to accept the fact that I was not going to be seeing Grace again tonight.

Ella made her way back over to the group of girls, and Grace lingered behind for a moment. I was still crouching down at the edge of the pool, and my knees were starting to ache. I sat down and stuck my feet in the water, fully anticipating that Grace would leave as soon as I did.

But she didn’t move. She just watched Ella as she swam away, and then she finally looked up at me.

“Why do you keep doing this?” she snapped.

“Doing what?”

“Trying to ruin all of my plans. It’s rude and you need to stop.”

“I swear I’m not trying to ruin anything. I didn’t know what your plans were. I just thought Ella would like to come to a party. That’s all.”

“Do you think I didn’t have plans made?” she said. “It’s like you don’t even know me at all,” she scoffed.

“You’re right. I don’t know you.”

Grace looked at me again, obviously surprised by my response. She hesitated for a moment, so I said what was on the tip of my tongue.

“I’d like to get to know you, though,” I said.

Grace went pale. I had come on way too strong. I should not have said that. Instant regret. She quickly licked her lips and then opened her mouth to say something, but nothing came out. She opened it again, and all I could think about was all the places those lips had touched me last night.

“What, last night wasn’t enough ‘getting to know me’ for you?” she asked.

“Last night was fun, I won’t deny it.”

“If I remember correctly, you said it was ‘fucking phenomenal’.”

“That’s right, I did.”

“So, I guess there’s no room for improvement. We never speak of it again and wedefinitelydon’t tell Ella about it.”

A lump formed in my throat. She obviously wasn’t experiencing the same feelings about last night as I was. She regretted it. She was embarrassed and ashamed by it. I was sitting here, lusting over a woman who regretted sleeping with me. I never thought I would see the day.

I cleared my throat and tried to figure out what to say. I glanced down at her chest and realized I had to leave immediately, before I really couldn’t keep my hands off her.

“Well, you guys enjoy your night with the strippers,” I said as I hopped to my feet.

Grace didn’t say anything else, and I forced myself not to look back at her. I grabbed my phone, key, and t-shirt off the chair I had been sitting on, and made my way back upstairs to my suite with my tail between my legs.

GRACE

Three days later, we arrived at the airport exhausted, happy, and a bit hungover. It turned out to be a fabulous weekend, even if Dylan’s presence did put a damper on things. After the afternoon at the pool, however, we didn’t hear from him again. I figured he went off to his next destination, but I was very wrong.

“Is that Dylan over there?” Ashley asked as we sat at our gate waiting to board.
