I had to make something happen, though. I couldn’t just sit here and continue fantasizing about her. I stood up from the lounge chair I had been relaxing on and made my way over to the group of girls.

I snuck up behind Ella and pushed her into the pool, which immediately got a shocked response from all of her friends. I realized I had pushed her in with a drink in her hand and a tiara on her head. She was going to be pissed.

When Ella’s head broke the surface of the water, I saw she was too drunk to care about any of that. She cheered and jumped up and down, and started begging her friends to jump in with her. They all obeyed her command, but Grace hesitated for a moment.

“You here to ruin our plans for tonight, too?” she asked.

“Of course not,” I said. “I just wanted to invite you all to a little get together I’m having.”

“We already have plans.”

“What would Ella say about it?” I asked, raising an eyebrow at her.

I knew I had beat her once again. Grace sighed at me and jumped into the pool without another word. She made her way over to the rest of the girls and joined in with whatever they were doing. Truthfully, I had no idea what women did for bachelorette parties. Or anytime, for that matter. They were just as mysterious as they had been when I was a teenager.

“Ella!” I called.

She looked over at me and started to swim in my direction as I motioned her over. She was moving slowly, and I honestly couldn’t tell if she was drunk again, or still drunk from last night. Maybe a little bit of both.

“What’s up?” she asked when she finally made it to the edge of the pool.

“I’m having a party tonight. You guys should come.”

“A party?” she asked. “A PARTY!” she said even louder.

I nodded my head and splashed her with a handful of water to get her to quiet down. I knew that if Grace heard my offer, she would be over to talk Ella out of it in an instant.

“That was rude,” she said as she wiped water off her sunglasses.

“So, what do you think? There will be a ton of cool people there.”

“Sounds fun, but I think Grace already planned something for us.”

“Trust me, this will be so much better than whatever she has planned.”

Ella contemplated this for a second, but in the time it took her to ponder my words, Grace appeared at her side with her game face on.

“I already told you we have plans tonight,” she said, crossing her arms across her chest.

“What are we doing?” Ella asked.

Grace chewed on the inside of her cheek for a moment.

“Umm, well, I wanted it to be a surprise.”

“Grace, you and I both know that I’m not going to remember this conversation in about 10 minutes.”

Grace laughed and my heart skipped a beat at the sight of her smile. It was effortless. She looked like a tanned goddess when she smiled.

“Good point,” she said with a nod. “We are going to that show you wanted to see. The one with the um…dancers.”

“Dancers?” I asked skeptically.

Grace nodded, but didn’t look at me. Ella thought long and hard about what Grace said.

“The dancers? OH! You mean the one with the sexy men where they dance and take off their clothes and bring the bride on stage?”

Just as I suspected.
