“I guess I’m just surprised, given our last interaction. I thought we agreed that we weren’t going to see each other again. You know, for Ella’s sake. And because I still don’t really like you.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. I loved a woman who wasn’t afraid to say what she was thinking. And Grace certainly wasn’t afraid.

“I bet if you give me just one night, I can change your opinion on me.”

“Oh really? You sound awfully sure of yourself.”

“Is that a yes?”

“What about Ella?”

“What about her?”

“She’d flip if she found out.”

“So, we don’t let her find out. Pretty simple.”

“Dylan,” she said with a sigh.

I waited a moment for her to go on, but she never did.

“Do you want me to pick you up, or do you want to meet me there?”

“I guess, um, I’ll meet you there…”

“Great. I’ll text you the address. See you Saturday night.”

“Um, see you then.”

I hung up the phone, not completely sure about what had just happened. I think she agreed to go out with me, but honestly, I wasn’t entirely positive. All I knew was that I was going to hope with all my might that she showed up to the restaurant on Saturday night.

When Saturday night arrived,my whole body was buzzing. I sent Grace the address a few days before, and told her to meet me at 8PM. Of course, I arrived at promptly 7PM, because I was far too nervous to spend another hour wandering my apartment.

I reserved a secluded table in the back corner, far away from peering eyes and potential photos being taken of us. The last thing I needed was for Ella to see a picture of me on a romantic date with Grace on social media or something.

Finally, Grace arrived. She stepped through the front door, and I wasn’t the only one who turned to look at her. She was wearing a long black dress that hugged her curves without being too revealing, but when she walked, she revealed a long slit that went all the way up to her hip. I had to take a moment to catch my breath before the host showed her to the table where I had been waiting.

“You look…wow,” I said as she approached.

I stood up and gently kissed her cheek, very cautious that she might turn and slap me or kick me before my lips met her skin. She smiled at me as I pulled out her chair. I sat down across from her, and I could hardly remember how to speak. She looked so stunning that I was silenced into oblivion.

“I don’t think I’ve ever heard you so quiet,” she said, taking a sip of the water in front of her.

“You just look so incredible.”

She smirked at me.

“I know.”

“Did you have any trouble finding this place?”

“Wow, you’re really not good at this.”

“Good at what?” I asked, a bit surprised by the comment.

“Going on a date with someone, making small talk.”

I swirled the ice around in my glass, trying to figure out how to respond.
