“True, true.”

“So. I don’t know. Maybe I’ll make something up? Maybe you can start acting like a dick again and see if that helps?”

“I don’t want to.”

“Why not?”

“Because I like who I am with you. You make me a better person.”

My heart flipped in my chest. I wanted to jump on top of him right there in the sand, but I held it together.

“Dylan,” I said quietly.

“It’s true. Now, I don’t know what you are going to tell Ella, but I bet she will have forgotten all about it by tomorrow.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right.”

Dylan’s hand squeezed mine, just for a moment, before he returned to his feet. He reached out a hand to help me up, and we returned inside together.

After dinner,as the guests dispersed to their rooms, I made my way to our hotel suite. Dylan was lingering in the restaurant for a bit longer, catching up with relatives and making sure Ella was ready for the next day. We figured it would be much safer if the two of us went into the suite alone than at the same time.

An hour later, I heard Dylan’s key card unlock the door. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. The anticipation of seeing Dylan again, this time in private, was exhilarating and nerve-wracking all at once. He stepped inside and was instantly illuminated by the moonlight that was streaming in from the open balcony.

"Hey," he whispered, his voice sending shivers down my spine.

"Hey," I replied, unable to suppress a smile.

In that moment, all the tension and longing from the night melted away, and I rushed into his arms. We embraced tightly, seeking solace in each other's touch. His warmth enveloped me, and for a brief moment, it was just us, alone in the world.

"Grace," he murmured against my hair, "I wish things were different."

"I know," I whispered, my voice laced with sadness, "but we can't change the situation right now. Ella's happiness is paramount."

“But we are alone now.”

“That’s true.”

“So how should we spend this lovely night in Mexico?”

“I have a few ideas.”

“Oh really? Do tell.”

“I can’t just give away all my secrets. You’re going to have to wait and see.”

I wandered off into the bedroom and pulled off the fluffy white robe that I had been wearing. I was wearing my skimpiest bikini, and truthfully, it didn’t leave much to the imagination. Dylan had to keep himself from drooling as he watched me spin around the room, showing off every angle.

“Holy shit,” he groaned.

He started walking towards me, but I hopped up onto the bed and out of his reach.

“Not yet,” I whispered.

“This is torture.”

I jumped down and grabbed his hand and lead him out to the balcony.

“You see that lifeguard stand way down there?”
