“I don’t think you understand how pissed off I am right now.”

“Trust me, I’m pissed too, but punching a random stranger isn’t going to change anything. We made a mistake, and now the picture is all over the place. It’s the internet. It’s not going anywhere.”

“It was a complete violation of privacy.”

“I agree.”

“I don’t care if people invade my privacy. I asked for this life. But I am not going to let anyone treat you like that.”

Grace looked at me for a long moment, and I couldn’t tell if she was about to cry or scream or fall asleep. She opened and closed her mouth several times before finally saying something.

“I really appreciate that, Dylan, but I chose this life, too.”

“No you didn’t. It’s my fault.”

“I chose it when I decided I wanted to be with you. I know who you are. I know you have almost no privacy. I still chose to be with you.”

I took a deep breath. She was right, but that didn’t excuse the fact that someone out there snapped that picture. They needed to pay for what they did.

“I can’t let them get away with this.”

“Please sit down, Dylan. Just for a minute. If you still want to go kick someone’s ass in ten minutes, I won’t stop you.”

I paced in the sand for a moment before finally coming back to sit on the lounge chair. I put my head in my hands and took a deep breath.

“We already have people watching us, apparently. I just don’t think causing a scene about it will do any good.”

“I just can’t let someone out there treat you like that. I won’t let it happen.”

“Well, it already happened. Drawing more attention to us is only going to make things worse.”

“How are they supposed to learn that what they did was wrong without me teaching them a lesson?”

“I don’t know. Karma? It’s not really our problem.”

“Listen, I know you’re right. But I am just absolutely fuming over this.”

“I can see that.”

“You’re not mad about it?”

“I am. But I’m more worried about the fact that Ella is going to see this picture soon, if she hasn’t already.”

“Oh shit.”

“I think that should be our main concern right now.”

I closed my eyes and leaned back onto the chair. What in the world were we supposed to tell Ella about the picture? This is definitely not the way I wanted her to find out about me and Grace.

“What the hell are we going to do?”

“Mr. and Mrs. Woods, your dinner has arrived.”

The waiter stepped into the cabana carrying a large tray of food and drinks. We silently watched him as he set it down on the table between us, poured two glasses of wine, and handed a warm towel to each of us to clean our hands.

We nodded our thanks as he took a step back and stared down at the array in front of us. When we had ordered it hours ago, I wasn’t sure if it would be enough food. But now I had no appetite, and no desire to do anything except stew over the events that had just taken place.

I glanced up at Grace, who seemed to be feeling the same way I did.
