“Yes, ma’am.”

They entered the kitchen, and again, he was impressed with the house.

“Have a seat, Rhett. It will only take a minute.”

“I will, after you.”

He watched her get two cups down and then made them each a cup. She carried them to the table and set his mug before him. She put sugar and cream on the table. Then he watched as she scooped several teaspoons into her coffee.

“Do you like a little coffee in your sugar?”

Cin smiled and then frowned at him.

“What? Do I have something in my teeth?”

“No. I’m sorry. I don’t mean to stare. I think you’re beautiful, Cin.”

“What?”

Rhett shrugged. “I always have.”

“Not always.”

“I’m sure I did, but I was in love with Heidi.” He shrugged. “I didn’t pay much attention to other women.”

It surprised him when she quickly got to her feet and took her cup to the sink. He pushed his seat back and walked to stand behind her. Cin turned around and almost ran into him. He could feel her body heat as he reached around her, poured what was left of his coffee into the drain, and placed his cup in the sink. Then he put his hands on each side of her, blocking her in.

Cin looked at him. “Back off, Rhett.”

He tilted his head. “Are you afraid of me?”

“Not at all.”

“Good.” He stepped back. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.” He raked his fingers through his hair and sighed. “I’m attracted to you, Cin.”

“Again… what?”

Rhett smiled. “I’m attracted to you.”

“Why?”

“Why? Why what?”

“Why are you attracted to me suddenly?”

“It’s not suddenly. I have been for quite a long time.”

“You said nothing.”

Rhett laughed. “Too chicken.”

Cin shook her head. “It would never work.”

“Why not?”

“You are a heartbreaker, Rhett Morrison, and I don’t need that in my life. I won’t be one in a long line of women for you.”

“That’s bullshit, Cin. Sure, I date, but if someone gets hurt, it’s not because I planned it that way. I was hurt too. Remember?”
