Lucinda entered the living room and slid the pocket doors closed. If the electricity went out, the fireplace would put off enough light to see by. Lucinda sat on the couch and turned on the television. She smiled when she found a Christmas movie.

A few days later, she was sitting on the sofa answering emails when someone knocked on the front door. Lucinda placed the computer on the coffee table, walked to the door, and opened it to see Sandy Evans, Piper, and Brooke Griffin.

“Hey! What are you doing here?”

“We thought we’d grab lunch since there’s a break in the weather until tonight. We all had to get out of the house and wanted to see if you’d like to join us,” Sandy told her.

“I’d love to.” She turned to leave the room, then looked back at Sandy. “I should change. Do you mind?”

“Not a bit. We’ll wait here.” Piper smiled.

Lucinda nodded and ran to her bedroom to change into jeans and a blue sweater. She pulled her long hair into a ponytail and then returned to the foyer. She grabbed her coat, pulled it on, and then they walked out to Piper’s SUV.

“I’m hungry too,” Lucinda said.

“I’m starving. Sawyer is working with a horse today, and usually, on weekends, we spend it together. We didn’t even eat breakfast.” Piper shrugged.

“How’s it going for you, Brooke?”

“Great. Thanks for asking, Cinda. It’s harder than I thought, but I love being a vet like Dad and Uncle Colson.”

Lucinda nodded. When Piper first got involved with Dr. Sawyer Griffin, his daughter, Brooke, didn’t want them together because she wanted her parents back together. That would never happen, and eventually Brooke and Piper became close.

When they got to the restaurant, they found a table. Connie came to them to take their orders.

When the bell above the door jingled, Lucinda looked to see Rhett and Landry entering the diner. They spotted the women and headed to them.

“Not every day you see so many beautiful women at one table.” Rhett removed his hat and smiled. They smiled back at him. He placed his hand on the back of Cin’s chair.

“Did Cin tell you about our night together?”

She leaned back against his hand, smashing it on the chair. He did his best not to laugh as he freed his hand and watched the other women look at Cin.

“I can see by your faces that she didn’t. Why is that, Cin? We only slept together. No biggie.”

Cin stood up slowly, and it took everything Rhett had not to grin.

“You are so dead, Rhett Morrison.” Her eyes narrowed as she looked at him.

He chuckled and leaned forward, almost touching his nose to hers.

“But no good morning kiss. That’ll change next time.” He put his hat back on, tugged it low, nodded at the shocked faces of Sandy, Piper, and Brooke, then headed for a booth.

“You want to tell me what that was about?” Landry asked him.

Rhett slid into a booth, and Landry did the same. Both removed their hats and hung them on the hooks on the side of the backs of the seats. Rhett chuckled.

“It was the night I stayed at her place when we had snow and ice.”

“Yeah, but I didn’t realize you spent the night with her.”

“Well, technically, I did, but nothing happened. I was giving her a rough time.”

“I’m glad to hear that because I didn’t think you’d say something like that to a woman you… spent the night with.”

“I never kiss and tell.”
