“She seems nice.”

Rhett nodded and saw Connie standing beside the booth and filling their coffee cups.

“Hey, Connie. Just my usual, please.”

“Same for me,” Landry said.

“All right. It will be right up.” She winked, then headed for the kitchen.

Rhett leaned his forearms on the table and glanced around.

“This place will never change.”

“That’s a good thing. Best burgers around.”

“You got that right,” he murmured while looking at Cin.

Shaking his head, he picked up his coffee and took a sip while keeping his eyes on Cin. He knew he wanted more with her, but still hadn’t asked her out. Too afraid of being shot down.

“I’m going tokillthat man.” Lucinda clenched her jaw.

“Give.” Piper put her hand out and wiggled her fingers.

“Idid notsleep with him,” Lucinda said between clenched teeth. “Well, yes, Isleptwith him, but nothing else. Recently when it snowed, he stopped by. The roads were terrible, and the electricity went out, so we slept in the living room. Me on the couch. Him on the floor. That is it.”

Her friends laughed, and she couldn’t help but laugh too.

“I love it. Rhett has a great sense of humor,” Sandy said.

“He knew what he was doing, getting you riled up, Cinda. He likes you. I can tell.” Brooke laughed.

Lucinda shook her head. “Doesn’t matter. I’m not interested.”

Piper choked on her drink. “Are you serious? He’s gorgeous.”

“He’s a heartbreaker. I can tell. Look at him, for God’s sake. A man who looks like that has women throwing themselves at him and…what?”

The women were looking at her like she was crazy. Piper smiled at her.

“You know our husbands, right?”

Lucinda frowned. “Yes, of course, I’ve—Oh!I see what you’re saying. Your husbands are gorgeous, and they settled down. I get that. I do, but…”

“Rhett is a good man. Let me tell you something. Neither of our husbands would be friends with him if he weren’t a good man.” Sandy folded her arms and stared at her. “You know him, Cinda. Has he ever been rude to you?”

“Oh, God, no. We’ve been friends for years. I’m not sure I want to mess that up.”

“What makes you think it will mess it up? It could make friends into lovers.”

“I’m not looking for anything like that.”

“Well, you’re missing a great opportunity. I’d go for him in a heartbeat,” Brooke said.

Rhett Morrison scared her. He was too sexy for her peace of mind. He looked at her, and their eyes held. Then he winked, and when she did the same, he glanced away from her, and she knew it was to hide a grin. Lucinda did her best not to laugh, but when the women got up to leave, they waved at him.

She smiled as she walked out the door. Payback, baby. Payback.
