“Then have her come to you. Inviteherto lunch here. Make sure you specify that it’s just you two girls. Maybe she’d like that.”

Cin looked at him with tears spiking her lashes. “I could do that.”

“Good. Daughters and their mothers need good relationships.”

“I agree. Are you coming in?” She slid back to the passenger side.

“Not tonight. I still have to pack for our trip on Monday.”

“I just have a few things I need to do.”

“Do you need to feed and water the dogs now?”

“Yes, but I can do it. Go home and get some rest. I’ll see you Monday morning.”

“All right. I’ll pick you up at six.”

“I’ll be ready.”

Rhett stared at her across the seat and hated leaving. He rolled his eyes when she smiled at him.

“Stop. I have to go.”

Cin laughed. “Okay. I’ll go easy on you this time, Morrison, but I won’t the next.”

Rhett chuckled. “Looking forward to it, darlin’. Please go inside before I change my mind.”

She kissed his lips, opened the door, then exited the truck. When she turned and waved, he grinned and then drove home.

Chapter Six

Monday morning was bitterly cold and calling for snow. Lucinda stood in the kitchen waiting for Rhett. When he pulled up to the house, the snow started. She opened the door, picked up her suitcases, and stepped onto the porch.

“I could have gotten those,” he said as he walked to the porch steps.

“I know.”

“Ready?”

“Yes.”

Rhett grinned, walked up the steps, kissed her lips, and took the cases from her.

“Good. Let’s get going. I’m sure Grant’s ready.”

“I can’t believe he’s flying us.”

“He’s a good man.”

When they pulled into the driveway, Lucinda sat up and stared at the beautiful farmhouse.

“What a gorgeous place.”

“It’s a great place. It’s been in Grant’s family for generations.”

Lucinda exited the truck, and snow hit her in the face, making her gasp.

“Damn, hurry.” She smiled when she heard Rhett chuckle.
