“Trust me, I get that. Hey, I’d better get going. I brought a couple up, but I have no idea where they are.”

Rhett laughed. “Only you, Nick.”

“What?” Nick grinned. “I’ll see you later. Thanks for coming by.”

Rhett nodded, then headed after Cin. Once Jose cut their tree and rode them back to the lot, they got hot chocolate and headed for the truck.

As Rhett buckled Lexi into her car seat, she babbled away. He didn’t understand a word she said, and he couldn’t care less, but his heart melted when she called him da-da.

“Santa is coming soon, baby girl.” He grinned when her little mouth formed a perfect‘O’.

He closed the door, walked around the truck, and climbed into the cab as Cin’s phone buzzed. She looked at the phone.

“Could be a client,” she said as she answered. “Hello? Yes, this is she.”

Rhett listened to her side of the conversation and waited until she finished before he drove out of the lot.

“Seriously? Oh, my God! That’s wonderful. Thank you. Thank you so much. Yes, Merry Christmas to you too. Goodbye.” She disconnected and looked at him with tears in her eyes.

“What is it?”

“We got a little boy. He’s a month old, and we can pick him up the Monday after Christmas.”

Rhett blinked his eyes as tears welled in them. He took Cin’s hand and pulled across the seat and kissed her.

“I can’t wait. Nick and I were talking about having a boy. I told him we had an application in for a boy.” He shook his head. “I didn’t think it would happen that soon.”

“He doesn’t have a name, so we should name him after you.”

“Really?”

“Why not? You’re his daddy.” She kissed his lips. “I’m so happy.”

“Me too. I told you we could do this.”

“Yes. Yes, you did.” She slid back to her seat and then looked at Lexi. “Do you want a baby brother?” She laughed when Lexi clapped her hands.

“You know she’s going to terrorize him.”

“No doubt. Let’s go home. I need to make up a new room.”

Rhett started the truck and looked in the rearview mirror to see his daughter falling asleep. She had a big day, and they were ready to go home.

Lucinda smiled as she watched the scenery pass by as they rode home. She was so happy she took a chance with Rhett because she’d never been happier.

Rhett’s parents were spoiling Lexi, and now they’d have another one next Christmas. It was always a packed house at the Morrison ranch for the holidays.

They had Thanksgiving at her mother’s house two days before and traveled to Rhett’s parents the day before. Her mother was still with Garth, and although Lucinda hated it, it wasn’t her life. If her mother was happy, who was she to say anything?

As Rhett drove the truck up to the house, he parked, got out, and walked around the front to the passenger side. He opened her door, and she smiled as he took her hand and helped her out. Then he removed Lexi from her car seat, and they went inside.

Lexi screamed when she saw Tigger, so Rhett set her on her feet. He tried to unzip her jacket, but she ran off with Tigger behind her. He looked at Lucinda and grinned.

“You’re not supposed to let her run in the house.” She put her hands on her hips.

“Yes, ma’am. Let me get my coat off, and I’ll chase her down.”
