“You enjoy that too much, Rhett Morrison.”

He laughed and pulled her into his arms. “I do, Lucinda Morrison. She’s my daughter. I’m going to spoil her. She’s Daddy’s girl.”

“She is that, for sure.”

He hung his coat and hat up, then he and Lucinda went to the living room to see Lexi on the floor with her head on Tigger’s side as he lay beside her. The dog loved her, and she felt the same.

“Come here, baby girl. We need to get your coat off.” Rhett sat on the floor.

Lucinda loved how he loved their little girl and knew he’d love any children they adopted. She couldn’t wait to get their little boy.

Her eyes filled with tears as she watched Rhett pull Lexi onto his lap and kiss her forehead. The little girl adored her daddy.

He removed her mittens, hat, and coat and then gave them to Lucinda.

“Mama,” Lexi said and pointed at her.

“Hi, baby. Are you sleepy?”

“No!” Lexi said, then ruined it by yawning.

Lucinda and Rhett laughed because they knew she had to be. The nap in the car wasn’t nearly long enough.

This was what she had wanted all her life. Even not being able to have children would ruin this. She had the man she loved and knew he loved her too. She knew her life couldn’t be better with one child now and having another soon unless they adopted a few more, and she wanted to.

She looked at Rhett, still sitting on the floor, tickling Lexi, and her screams filled the house.

Lucinda couldn’t wait for more laughter to fill the house. With a smile, she sat on the floor beside her husband, put her head on his shoulder, and he kissed her forehead. She would be with this man and the children they’d raise for the rest of her life.

***The End***
