“Dream, oh,” Love cries out as she pulls me from my chair, giving Shok and Drez space to subdue the possessed Fairy.

“Well, now we know what happens to the Fae who get attacked by the shadows,” Hope says as she comes around to hug me. “Looks like they don’t die; they just become evil.”

“Who would go to such lengths to make the Fae evil?” Love asks as she strokes my hair as I slowly start regulating my breath.

“No, please don’t hurt him,” the Fairy who asked for our help calls out as she rushes towards where Shok is. Taking hold of his muscular arm, she tries to pull him away, which is laughable, as Shok is the biggest of all the men.

He looks over at her and glares. “He will hurt everyone if we don’t detain him. Don’t worry, we won’t hurt him.” He looks up and over my shoulder. “A little help here,” he mutters. Looking over my shoulder, I see Trek approach, and then he guides the Fairy back.

“We need to do this. Calm down,” Trek says.

“I’m going to try to bring out the darkness in him from here.” My voice is hoarse as I whisper my intentions.

“No,” Drez states, but it’s too late. I think of the light extracting all the darkness out of him. The Fairy starts to scream in anger, thrashing around, which tells me that the light is affecting him, but I don’t think it will help, as I don’t think he has any goodness in him anymore. I can feel myself tiring at the strength of the evil combating my magic, until finally, I give up or it will drain me completely.

“I can’t. I can’t find any goodness in him anymore,” I whisper, only to see Drez glaring at my clear disregard for his order.

“She called you Dream, and you Love. There are only two fairies I know who are called Dream and Love, and they are the sovereigns’ daughters. Am I wrong?” I glance over at a Gargoyle standing against one of the pillars, looking at everything that is happening. Trek is suddenly beside the three of us, as Drez and Shok are still subduing a violent Fairy, a frown on his face as he looks at everyone who is now looking at us suspiciously.

The men clearly didn’t want anyone to know who we were because of everything that is going on and not being sure of how the Fae would react, but now it’s too late, as realization is dawning on everyone’s faces.

“What if they are?” Trek asks with a growl, which has the Gargoyle lifting his arms in the air in a submissive manner.

“Just curious why three princesses—because I am guessing she is also one of them,” the Gargoyle says as he points to Hope, “would be coming here instead of going to see their parents.” Everyone has gone deathly quiet at the interaction.

“As we said when we arrived, we were being attacked by the shadows at Eternity Fae. After one such attack, we were transported here into the city. We were hoping to ask for the help of the sovereign, as we have not had any communication from the outside in some time and didn’t know what was happening here,” Trek states as he looks at everyone.

“How did you transport here from Eternity Fae?” another Gargoyle asks as he steps closer.

“One of the princesses.”

“That means she can transport us back to Eternity Fae,” a Fairy says from the back.

“No, that does not mean that. A great deal of energy from all of us was required to be able to transport us here, and just because we were all about to be killed.” At his revelation, the Fae present all start to comment, some angry that we will not try to transport them back to Eternity Fae, others just despondent at the situation. I feel a presence behind me. Turning my head, I see Drez has come to stand at my back, his expression angry. He places his hands on my upper arms, squeezing gently in comfort.

“Can you not see that we are at war? We need to stick together and fight this enemy who has decided to attack us. Fae are being killed and turned evil. Just look behind me. Do you want to end up like him or killed? Stop fighting each other and start trying to figure out what is actually happening and find solutions,” Drez states forcibly. I have always admired the way he is so calm and collected and knows just what to say at the right time. I know I should not, but I am so tired of this constant fight lately that all I want is a respite of everything.

Leaning back against his chest, I feel the warmth of his body against my back, giving me a feeling of safety. I feel him tense behind me, but then he relaxes, and his arm comes around my waist, holding me close. I have a feeling this war is here to stay, and I am going to need all the strength I can get.

CHAPTER 12

After a turbulent night where most of the Fae at the safe house had questions and many heated arguments were raised and then peace was forcefully installed by the men, we finally managed to make it through the night and are now on our way to where my parents are supposed to have been residing the last time anyone saw them.

“So, tell me about that moment I saw you and Drez having?” Love comes to sit next to Hope and me. After walking for half the day, the men guided us to this quiet park with tall oak trees and beautiful pathways that in a way give us peace and energize our souls by being surrounded by nature and not concrete, which the city is mostly surrounded by. Shok and Drez have gone out to get us something to eat. Trek leans against a tree, his eyes closed as he rests, but I can tell that he’s not sleeping.

“What do you mean? What moment?” I ask innocently, which has Hope elbowing me.

“Come on, even I saw it,” Hope says with a grin.

“It was nothing. You saw how everyone was arguing, and I had just been strangled. He was just giving me some emotional support.” Love raises her eyebrows at me with an unbelieving expression on her face.

“Argh,” Hope mutters. “He likes you. It’s clear to see, and you are mad about him. Just accept it already.”

“He told me that protecting me was his job. You’re mistaken. He just wants to make sure that I am not harmed on his watch.”

“You’re so blind,” Love mutters as she shakes her head. “I will show you.”

“Love, don’t you dare mingle in this,” I state as I frown at her. “Are you somehow making him act as if he cares about me? I know you can enhance people’s feelings to make them realize when they care for someone.”
