CHAPTER17

You Have a Visitor

Luca

I cracked six eggs into a container, added salt and pepper, and started to whip them with a fork. The smile on my face refused to let up as I considered what else Donata would like for breakfast. Omelets, fruits, and pastries were my usual go-to. For whatever reason, I wanted to share that with her.

What the hell was I doing? I set the pan on the stove and froze. Last night was never supposed to have happened. This morning in the shower hadn’t been part of my plan. Sex with Donata was never part of the plan. I braced both hands on my hips and stepped back. Fuck. The fear of losing her at the club made me lose my mind, made me take things too far.

“Are you sure you know what you’re doing?” Alfred met my gaze from the other side of the kitchen counter. How long had he been standing there, looking at me with pity in his eyes? “You seem lost.”

“I know how to make an omelet.” I got the fire going and continued making breakfast for Donata.

“I wasn’t talking about the eggs.” He shrugged. “When they showed up last night, you assured me you would send her home with Enzo Alfera.”

My stomach churned with anger and jealousy at the mere thought of Enzo putting his hands all over her and then taking her to his bed to keep her safe. That was all I could think of when they both showed up. Donata seemed so lost and afraid. She disarmed me. Every time she came near me or looked at me like I was some kind of knight in shining armor, she disarmed me.

“There’s a chance the asshole that came for her at the club is still after her. She needed a safe place.” I shifted my attention back to the task at hand.

I added green peppers, diced ham, and cheese to the omelet and folded it in half. When it was ready, I transferred it to a plate. The whole time, Alfred stared at me with curiosity. Was letting Donata spend the night a mistake? Of course it was. Did I regret it? Absolutely not.

“Let’s just get this out of the way.” I glanced up at him. “Until the situation with the club is resolved to my satisfaction, she’s not going anywhere.”

“Of course, sir.” He walked to the cupboard next to the fridge and grabbed a couple of place settings.

“I know what I’m doing, Alfred.”

“You’ve mentioned that.”

“I’m going to tell her the truth.” I gestured toward the marble counter and the elaborate meal I had prepared for Donata, as if that would prove my intentions were noble.

I had proposed to her last night. And while she hadn’t exactly said yes, she hadn’t said no either. I was sure that marriage to me was part of her obsession. I had to admit, when I popped the question, I had expected her to jump up and down, to throw her arms around my neck and tell me she wanted to spend the rest of her life with me.

“To what end? I thought the plan was to marry her then tell her none of it was real. Unless things have changed.”

“They haven’t changed.”

“So none of this is real?” He gestured to the room at large.

“Omigod.” Donata padded into the kitchen, beaming at me. “Is all this for me?”

She looked absolutely irresistible wearing my T-shirt. Knowing she was completely naked underneath made my cock stand at attention. It also made me insanely jealous that she would let Alfred see her like this.

“That will be all, Alfred,” I said through gritted teeth.

“I’ll be downstairs if you need me.” Alfred gave Donata a quick nod then left.

As soon as he’d disappeared through the door, I reached for her face and brought her in for a hard kiss. She rewarded me with a quiet moan then melted into me. “What was that for?”

“Alfred didn’t need to see you like this.”

“I didn’t know he was here.” She smiled then bit her lower lip. “Professor Gallo, are you jealous?”

“Do I need to remind you that you’re mine?” I reached under her T-shirt and squeezed her butt cheek. “Spankings seem to work well on you.” I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her again. All I could think about was how badly I wanted to be inside her, to make her forget about the outside world. “Or maybe I should fuck you all day, until you can’t walk anymore,” I whispered in her ear.

“Okay.” She slid her hands up my chest and into my hair. “I can text Pinna and have her bring me a change of clothes.”

“Tell her to bring you a suitcase.”
