So after putting the flowers in some water and then mixing the hydration drink, I thought of everything I needed to do in the next couple weeks and how I’d be too busy for Wolfe family dinners, let alone spending one-on-one time with West.

ChapterSixteen

Weston

Aunt Lori:Make sure to have some fun over the next three days in Reno.

Me:???

Aunt Lori:Let your hair down and go get ’em tiger.

Me:…

Aunt Lori: You’re no fun. Give me something.

Me:

Aunt Lori:How rude!

Me:

Somehow I managed to avoid being alone with Emmy for ten whole days. I was polite enough and didn’t purposely try to be an asshole, but after having her in my arms and feeling her warm body against me, I’d had way too many fucking dreams about her.

One where she was on her hands and knees, with me gently tugging her hair and claiming her sweet pussy from behind.

One where she sat on my face and I drove her crazy with my tongue and teeth and fingers until she fell apart, screaming my name, and I lapped up her orgasm liked a starved man.

One where she slept half on my chest, her soft breaths dancing across my skin, and I held her in my arms, hugging her tight against me, as if she were the most precious thing in the world.

Of them all, the last had scared me the most. Because having erotic dreams and waking up to jerk off some steam was one thing. Hell, I’d been doing that since I was a teen.

But the idea of wanting to cuddle in bed with a woman, to maybe imagine having more with her than hot, sweaty sex, made me both wish for it and know I could never have it. At least not until my kids were grown, when I wouldn’t have to worry about protecting their hearts from yet more rejection.

As I drove up to Reno, Nevada, where the wedding expo was being held, I tapped my thumbs against the steering wheel and tried to think of how I could avoid being alone with Emmy for the next three days.

Idiot.I couldn’t, plain and simple. I had to help set up her booth, for one thing. Plus, I was sure Emmy and Abby would want to hang out for dinner at some point, and if I said no, Abby would start asking questions.

I arrived at the hotel and spotted Emmy’s car in the parking lot. The place was only about half full since a lot of exhibitors wouldn’t arrive until the next morning.

I grabbed my luggage and went inside to the reception area, where I noticed Emmy politely arguing with the front desk person. I may not want to be alone with her, but something was upsetting her, and I couldn’t just abandon her. I walked up and she looked at me, frustration plain on her face, and I raised my brows. “What’s wrong?”

She huffed. “They can’t find my reservation.”

The front desk employee said politely, “I’m sorry, Ms. Mendoza. I’ve checked and double-checked, but there’s nothing under your name. And we’re completely booked up for the wedding expo. I can call around to see if I can find something else, but I don’t know if anything will be free nearby.”

Emmy’s expression was a combination of frustration and worry. I didn’t like it.

I may not be able to wipe away her tears or crawl into bed with her, but I could certainly try to help. But first, I needed to check something.

I asked the front desk person, “Do you have a reservation for Weston Wolfe?”

The employee typed on their computer, nodded, and looked at me. “Yes, a queen-sized bed for three nights.”

“Can I switch it to two twin beds instead?”

The employee did some more typing but then shook his head. “Sorry, Mr. Wolfe. It’s possible you could wait and see if anyone would be able to switch with you, but…”

“It’s unlikely they would.”
