She stopped in front of one called Cherie’s, a name she recognized. Its bright red sign was of a muscular vampire bent over a curvy woman’s neck. A similarly brawny vampire bouncer guarded the heavy metal door. Menace rolled off him in waves, and every time he smiled or talked, his fangs flashed.

A vampire club.

Outside Vegas, there were only a few. She’d read of Organization missions raiding these sinful hellholes, but she’d never been inside one.

The line to enter wrapped around the edge of the building. Occasionally, when a vampire or two dropped from the sky, the crowd screamed with the women taking off their shirts to catch the vamp’s attention. Some vampires left with humans from the line, and others merely walked into the club without sparing a glance at the people.

The humans weren’t there for the music or the drinks, but to attract vampires.

To do what? Have sex with them? What would it be like to have sex with a vampire? Everyone acted like it would be the best sex of their life, something worth trading their souls for. Then again, sex would probably be enjoyable if it weren’t an obligation.

Blackmore’s face popped into her head. Ignoring the heat that rushed through her, Leah was ready to move on when two vampires landed in front of her.

She stopped right before bumping into one of them. The vampires, instead of turning to the humans who were desperately fighting for their attention, focused their gazes on her.

“She’s perfect,” the dark-haired one whispered. The carefully modulated voice sent a shiver down her spine.

If they were human, she’d think herself lucky having caught their eye. One of them was the perfect golden boy, with blond hair and blue eyes, while the other was exactly the opposite. Both had athletic builds that their clothes failed to hide. Yet, no one could mistake their deadly, sensual aura nor miss the wings protruding from their backs.

Praying they’d ignore her if she did the same, Leah turned to go in the opposite direction and flinched when the blond one blocked her way.

“Leaving so soon?”

“What do you want?” Leah’s eyes darted between them, scanning for an escape route.

“We want the same thing you do. Isn’t that why you’re here?” The one behind her stepped forward, his chest almost touching her back.

Icy fear pricked at the base of her spine. The vampire’s innate sexual magnetism wrapped around her. Yet, she felt none of the desire she did with Blackmore.

“Leave me alone. I wasn’t waiting in line.”

Her throat closed as fear swamped her. She had to get out of here.

The vampires looked confused as their glamour failed to calm and seduce her. “Trust us, sweetie. We want nothing but to take you to heaven.”

The blond vampire stepped forward, trapping her between him and his companion. He laid his hands on her wrist. His coldness burned through her shirt to her skin, spreading until she was frozen from the inside.

Leah shook her head. “No, let me go. There’re others who want you.” She gestured to those in line.

“Yes, there are.” He didn’t take his gaze off her. With a wicked smile that chilled her blood, he bent to her ear and whispered, “But it would be so much fun breaking a pretty one like you.”

His cold lips touched her cheek, raising goosebumps on her arm. She wouldn’t get out of this with just words. Leah snapped up her knee but missed the vampire’s groin and hit his stomach instead.

With a gasp of pain, he bent over. Before the vampire could react, she headbutted him and elbowed him in the stomach. She wished she had a dagger or something, any sort of weapon, but she’d been thoroughly searched before landing on the Central Tower. With her heart pounding in her throat, Leah ran as fast as her legs could carry her.

It wasn’t fast enough.

She’d barely made it down to the end of the line before the dark-haired vamp blocked her way, hissing at her like a savage animal. Damn it! She should’ve run into the club. Her shriek was cut off when someone behind her grabbed her neck and locked their arm around her waist like a vise.

Leah thrashed against her captor, clawing and biting and kicking, but it was useless. She was only human.

No, she couldn’t give up, couldn’t allow the vampires to take her and use her only to discard her like an old tissue. The girls in the Compound needed her. She’d promised Emily she’d return.

Leah renewed her struggle with fresh vigor. In her wild flailing, her elbow slammed into her captor’s chest with enough force to make him gasp. The fingers around her loosened just a little for her to scream. Surely someone would help her. What about the bouncer? Was it a common occurrence for vampires to take unwilling humans with so many witnesses?

An inhuman roar responded, and the sound made her wish that the vampires had ended her right there.

Something crunched behind her.
