It brought back that moment in the street, when she’d lost herself to the passion Blackmore ignited. She’d never felt anything like it. That all-consuming desire for one person. Him. Even now, she ached to have him fill the emptiness inside her.

Nothing else mattered.

No, that can’t happen. She couldn’t lose herself. This was how vampires enslaved their human pets. It was just sex at first. Humans become addicted to it, like any other drug. Losing themselves in the high, not caring what happens until the vampire tires of them.

Leah had visited a shelter for vampire addicts once. She recalled the glassy eyes on the faces of those men and women, their bodies full of bite marks, asking after their vampire masters. It was a sad and horrible life.

She refused to become one of them.

They entered another hallway. Leah assumed someone was guarding the entrance since she felt someone move behind her. As the door shut behind them, the music dimmed. The dark wood-paneled walls were empty except for the lamps hanging every few feet. The floor was a dark marble so clean that Leah could see her reflection in them.

“Was that too shocking for you, Miss Davis?” Blackmore’s deep voice lit up the parts of her body that she’d rather ignore.

“Can you let me go now?”

“No.”

“I don’t see what you will accomplish by carting me around. I can walk just fine.”

“I know,” he said, but still, he didn’t release her. “You didn’t answer my question.”

“What? Oh, you mean the orgies?” Leah rolled her eyes. “What if it shocked me? It’s not every day I see people fornicating in public.”

The arm around her tightened. “I would hope not.” His voice was casual, too casual.

Hmm. Did the almighty Julian Blackmore not like the thought that she might be promiscuous? Weird. Surely someone like him would prefer someone more worldly.

Wait, why do I care what he prefers?

“Where are you taking me?” Leah asked, figuring this was a safer topic of conversation than her sexual experience.

“Somewhere safe.”

Was there even such a thing? With vampires surrounding her. The most dangerous one carrying her.

But he’d also saved her.

He might’ve looked like a demon, but he was still the lesser of two evils. So far, he hadn’t threatened her

life, unless she could die of lust overload. If she was going to become a blood slave, she’d rather it be for Julian Blackmore.

Did she just justify having sex with Julian Blackmore? She had to get away from him before she ruined her life.

“How long till we get there?” Rather than ruminating on her wayward thoughts, Leah tried to distract herself. “My stomach has a limit on how much bouncing it can take, you know.”

As soon as she said that, Blackmore stopped walking. Uh-oh, had she gone too far?

Turned out, they were there. They entered another room, which was even darker than the hallway. Next thing she knew, Leah was off Blackmore’s shoulder and sinking into a soft bed. Her eyes landed exactly on the bulge in his pants.

For one second, Leah considered what he would do if she unzipped his pants, or if she kissed those stone-hard abs. Her hands itched to trace the dips and curves of his chest. She must be crazy. Maybe the vampires pumped the club with some kind of sex pheromones that made humans lose all sense. She would not sleep with him. Other than her personal moral beliefs, Dimitri and the Organization would see that as the ultimate betrayal.

A tense minute passed. What if he continued their earlier kiss? She was powerless to resist him. Not because she was human, but because her brain disappeared whenever he touched her.

“Stay here,” Blackmore ordered with a growl and was gone.

Wait, what? While she’d been lusting after him, Blackmore clearly had other things in mind. The click of the door jolted her into action. Leah leaped out of bed and sprinted to the door. She jiggled the handle. Locked.

“Let me out!” She pounded on the door. No response. Did he really lock her in and leave? “Damn you!”
