She kicked the door in frustration, which accomplished nothing except hurting her foot. It made her feel better, only a little.

Ugh, she’d give him a piece of her mind when he dared to return.

Leah studied the room for another possible exit. The only furniture was the sumptuous king-sized bed covered in red silk sheets. There were no windows, only another door leading to a sizable bathroom. The dim lighting and dark paneled walls created an intimate setting. There was no doubt as to the room’s purpose.

Did Blackmore expect her to wait here like some escort? As she fumed and contemplated how to break the lock, something shifted in her mind.

A familiar warmth in her forehead. Then she heard Dmitri.

That was interesting.

Chapter Six

Leahsuppressedagroan. Why did Dmitri pick now to talk to her? Unless he knew some secret way to get her out of here, she didn’t want to hear from him.

But ignoring and angering Dmitri wasn’t smart, so she said,What’s interesting?

You and Blackmore. He wants you.

So?Icy trepidation balled in her stomach at his thoughtful tone. Something bad usually followed that tone.

We can use that.

How?There should be an off button on this chip. Maybe she’d suggest it to its designer. Having a spying chip in her head wouldn’t be as terrible if she could turn off Dmitri whenever she wanted.

You need to seduce Julian Blackmore.

What? Seduce him? An hour ago, you told me to avoid him.

If Dmitri were here, she’d scream. Didn’t he realize how insane that was? He’d trained her to hate vampires, to view them as the spawn of the devil, blame them for all the wrong in her life, and now he was ordering her to sleep with one?

As if she could just flip a switch between love and hate.

Though with Blackmore and how her body heated at the mere thought of him, it wouldn’t be difficult.

That was before. His reaction to you is unexpected. We’re changing the plan.

Changing the plan? You can’t just change it. You didn’t prepare me to change the plan. She knew she sounded like a hysterical drama queen, but this was her life he was playing with. He didn’t face death at every turn.

This is better for us. Think of everything you’ll have access to if you’re his lover.

Leah heaved a sigh and rubbed at her forehead. The feverish feeling didn’t help with the frustration and anger coursing through her. She’d worked long enough for Dmitri to know when his mind had been made up, but she still had to try.

Say I sleep with him, then what? Let him drain me? Become addicted to vampire sex? No, thank you.

If you can kill Blackmore, the sacrifice is worth it.

Easy for him to say. Unlike Dmitri, Leah wasn’t so fanatic about the cause that she’d trade her life for it. She’d only agreed to this mission because he’d told her she would be safe.

Her only job had been to observe the vampires for four weeks, the length of the job contract, nothing more. She should’ve known better than to believe him.

What makes you think he’ll keep me as a lover? It’s just as likely he throws me out after one night.

That is up to you. Remember, Blackmore is still a man.

Leah scoffed. As if she could forget. What if he drains me? You’d be one spy short. And after you worked so hard to get me here too.

For a few seconds, Dmitri didn’t reply. Maybe she’d done the impossible and changed his mind. On the one hand, he’d have a personal spy on Blackmore, a vampire who’d evaded the Organization for centuries. On the other, he might lose the only spy he had among Vegas’ upper echelon.
