Page 66 of Secrets Among Us

I slowly brushed my lips along hers, and she nipped my bottom lip playfully. This kiss could lead to so much more this morning. She parted her mouth, and so much emotion charged between us as our kisses turned hot and passionate. She slid her fingers through my hair as her breath hitched, and I tasted the sweetness of her lips. I wanted her again.

I needed her again.

And now, she might actually be mine.

Sadie’s breathing changed as she crawled on my lap, wrapping her arms around my neck as she ground her hips into me.

She was pressed against my lap, and it would take a second before I got her pajamas off. She was so small compared to me, but she felt so large in this moment… as if she’d changed the entire trajectory of her life, her world. And it was so damn sexy.

Sadie pulled her mouth away as she stayed on my lap, her eyes fluttering open with a dopey grin sliding across her face.

“Thank you for that morning kiss.” She slid off my lap, leaving me wanting her as she wiggled her hips.

I laughed, wiping my fingers across my lips as a twinkle lit up her gaze. “So, you were just bribing me with a little nookie?”

“Not exactly, but I’m feeling really… relieved. Now that the light of day is here, I can see things clearer. I spoke to my parents this morning, and they seem fine. My dad wants to get his hands around Tim’s neck, I think.” She laughed nervously. “And they encouraged me to try to live as normally as I can.”

“Sounds good to me.” I cupped my palms around her butt, and her smile melted my world into a sugary way of being.

“And since I won’t be moving back there, I wondered if maybe we could visit… you know, after this thing with my ex is resolved.”

She slid back on my lap and swept a kiss across my lips as I tried to shake the disturbing feeling racing through me.

“Absolutely.”

“My sister and Jaxson said they were thinking about heading back tomorrow,” she said softly, straightening on my lap.

“You’ll miss her.”

“I will.”

I took a deep breath, unsure of what her answer would be. “Are you still thinking about heading back there?”

“Well, I sent everything back there, and I don’t have my apartment any longer.” Her lips fell into a fine line. “But I don’t think a long-distance relationship is exactly what we need.”

“And Tim is there.”

“Yes, but apparently, he can get here too.”

I nodded, feeling her frustration.

“But—”

“Will you move in with me, Sadie?”

“I kind of thought you’d never ask.”

I held her close. “You mean just because I got dumped and thought you were going to run off to the Bahamas or Portugal that maybe I wanted to save an ounce of dignity?”

She giggled, and I held her close. “I think we’ve both been through enough that we can leave our egos at the door.”

Sadie pressed her forehead against mine and smiled. “Thank you for giving me the space to figure out things. It’s not that I feel completely better, but I sense hope. And I think that what I was missing this entire time was hope.”

“I’ll always try to give you what you need, Sadie.” I slid my fingers down her messy braid.

“You do more than you know,” she said softly. “But I should probably go spend some time with my sister before I meet Melanie for lunch.”

“I think she’s been waiting for me to get some common sense back.” She flashed me a grin as she climbed off my lap. “She couldn’t understand why on earth I broke up with you.”
