We received some intelligence on Kiek while you were away this weekend. It looks like he has been planning something huge and is, in fact, trying to get you off the board as his competitor. We still aren’t sure exactly what he is planning, but he keeps referencing the idea of removing you from your position as a leader.
After receiving the message, he immediately started to worry that his time with Mia was coming to an end. There was no other way he could imagine Kiek having the ability to remove him from his position. He had enjoyed his time with her so much and couldn’t bear the thought of losing her already.
He picked up his transmitter and called his military chiefs on a conference correspondence. After seeing that everyone had answered the call, he addressed them. “It looks like Kiek is going to try something again soon. After his last attack and attempt to collect information on me, we can’t be too careful.”
“I hadn’t heard anything until this call. Did something happen while you were away?”
“Luckily, not this time. However, it looks like he is planning to have me removed somehow. I know I can trust you all, and I need to know that I can count on you all to detain Kiek if he gets anywhere near our planet.”
“Of course!”
“Yes, sir!”
Resounding positive responses had him feeling somewhat relieved. “I need to know the second he has been brought in. It is time we had a little one-on-one chat, face to face.”
“Copy. You’ll be the first to know, sir.”
“In the meantime, we need to coordinate security for my household, my children, and my nanny included.”
“Do we really need to protect the Earthling?”
“I don’t think you heard me properly … I said I needed a protective detail for my whole household. That includes my childrenandmy nanny. Am I understood?”
“Yes, sir. We will send over details and coordinate a rotating schedule to start immediately.”
“Thank you. Now, with that settled, I want to see each of you in my office tomorrow morning. I think we need to have a more private chat than these transmitters allow.”
“Yes, sir, we will all be there.”
He began to get a nagging feeling while he was on the call with the military chiefs. He didn’t get his usual immediate acknowledgment of his orders, and something didn’t sit right with him about this exchange.
He spent the rest of the evening answering other correspondence, but his mind kept wandering to the call with the chiefs. He remained unusually quiet at dinner that evening, and could tell that Mia was picking up on his worried attitude.
“This dinner is delicious. Mia, I think you are starting to fully grasp the delicacies of our culture.”
“Thank you. I have been trying hard to get the food just right.”
He thought this small conversation was enough of a diversion to keep her from noticing just how worried he was, but the guards showed up a few minutes later. “Excuse me while I handle this situation.”
Mia watched him as he got up and went to the front door. “I thought you would be here earlier, but no time like the present. Thank you for being here, and don’t be afraid to ask for anything while you are here.”
“Copy, sir. We will be out here for now but will let you know if we need anything.”
He saw the worried look in Mia’s eyes when he returned to the table. “I called in a little extra security for the household. Just a precaution for now.”
“A precaution, huh?” He could tell Mia wasn’t buying it but gave her a look that told her they would discuss the matter later, and she went back to eating.
After the children finished and dismissed themselves, he spoke up about the warnings. “When we got back, I had a message from my lead security officer warning me that Kiek is trying to remove me from my position.”
“Is that even something he could do?”
“I am not sure, to be honest, but I am also not used to playing this type of political game. If he challenged me to a fight, that’s one thing, but challenging my career is something I am not familiar with, and I am trying to navigate the situation the best I can.”
“Whatever happens, I am here to help, and you can be sure I will protect the children at all costs.”
“I knew I could count on you, but as of now, I am not sure how he is going to try to make this happen. Just to be on the safe side, I would rather have security here for all three of you.”
“If you knew you could count on me, why did you wait to tell me what was going on?”
