He laughed, taking her hand. “Sweetie, I’m in the military, and a lot of people know who I am. So, it’s only natural that they would want to witness this. Is this okay?”

As scared as she was, she wasn’t backing down. This was important to Tharon, and therefore, it was important to her.

She shook her head. “Yes, I’m just surprised, that's all.”

She looked at the kids with their heads out the other window. They had a handful of petals at the ready, eager for the vehicle to move forward.

She looked back at Tharon. She gave him a smile. “Let’s do this.”

They moved forward, and the kids giggled happily. Her fear melted away as they rolled forward, and she heard people yelling to them. They wished them a long and happy marriage. They wished them bliss. All good things, and it warmed her heart.

She leaned closer to Tharon, feeling the breeze. Tharon wrapped an arm around her, throwing petals out as they moved along.

"This is nice," she whispered. "This custom."

He smiled at her. "Yeah?"

She nodded, looking outside the window. She could see why they did it this way.

By the time they got to the end of the ride, they were out of petals. They arrived at the venue where they were holding the small ceremony Tharon had promised her.

The kids hopped out, rushing inside. Rusang was waiting at the door, rubbing at their heads as they rushed inside.

Tharon’s hand wrapped around hers. “You ready?”

She looked at him, taking in the way his blue skin shined under the sun. She smiled. “Let’s get married.”

They had their short service and a little party afterward, where his family and friends congratulated them over and over. The day was perfect, and by nighttime, the lights were dimmed. She sat in a chair holding Cian, who had fallen asleep.

Rusang chuckled. “It’s been a long day for them.”

She nodded in agreement. “Triat is trying really hard to stay awake. He's half asleep over there.”

Rusang sat, and they looked across the floor where he stood with Tharon. Triat was rubbing at his tired eyes, still trying to dance.

“Thank you for this,” he said, looking back at her.

She looked at him, confused. “For what?”

He waved a hand at Cian. “For all of this. For loving the kids and my brother. None of us ever thought he was going to marry again.”

She felt a pang in her chest. She realized how much they must have all worried about him. She had never considered how the Tor’vian tendency to refuse a second marriage might have affected the rest of his family when he was a young man left alone with two small children.

“You make him happy. And I mean, you make himreallyhappy.”

She looked at Tharon as he picked up Triat. He ruffled his hair as the boy said something to his father.

She looked back at Rusang. “Thank you.”

They packed the kids up and went home. Tharon carried them inside, a child on each of his shoulders. She locked the door and followed Tharon down the hallway to their room.

She helped Cian, who was still mostly asleep, change into her night clothes while Triat yawned as Tharon helped him.

“Dad, what are we going to do tomorrow?”

“Whatever you want,” Tharon said.

Cian looked at her, rubbing her eyes. “Mia … can I ask you something?”
