And then he smiled, snatching oxygen from my lungs. Shit! He was so handsome when he smiled. He had the whitest and most beautiful set of teeth that glowed when he smiled, and his dark eyes sparkled like a pitch-black sky with shimmering stars.

It’d been two weeks since our wedding, and I honestly couldn’t get over how handsome he was. It was exhausting knowing I was as mesmerized by this man in equal amount as I hated him.

I clamped a hand over my mouth and yawned. “Don’t you ever sleep?”

He huffed and sat up. “I’m satisfied simply watching you sleep.”

I cringed when he winked at me. “That’s the lamest pickup line I’ve ever heard. Are you from the seventies?”

“Are you naïve?” He got down from the bed and pulled his brief down, leaving his firm ass on display for me to enjoy. I wanted to squeeze it.Dirty Giselle.“Men in the mafia don’t sleep that much. That’s the only way to make sure we aren’t murdered in our sleep.”

I leveled a glower at him. “Keep an eye open when you eventually learn how to sleep. Who knows? I might attempt murder one of these days.”

“You sleep like you’re dead, how do you plan to murder me?” He tied a towel around his waist and started for the bathroom but stopped halfway through. “One more thing, don’t grab my cock in your sleep unless you plan to do something with it.”

Scarlet red burned my cheeks. “I didn’t do that.”

“I don’t lie, Giselle.” He flashed a sinister smile at me before disappearing into the bathroom.

I swear I’m really going to kill him one of these days.

Laying down, I stared blankly at the ceiling. I was almost two months pregnant, and Nikolai and I had never discussed our baby. Sometimes, I even forgot I was pregnant asides the fatigue, hunger, and morning sickness that came with it.

Did he not care about the baby? I’d avoided talking to him about it because I didn’t want to be a bother to him, but I didn’t have a choice, I had to bring it up sooner or later.

Nikolai came out of the bathroom shortly after, and I went in for a shower before we both headed downstairs for breakfast.

“Look who we have here.” My eyes darted to Vlad. I wasn’t unhappy to see him, but…Right, Nikolai didn’t care about me enough to share information. I was stupid for thinking otherwise.

“Hi, Vlad.”

“You look stunning, sister-in-law.” He took my hand, then he kissed it.

I forced myself not to pull away from him. Even the youngest Vadim brother intimidated me. He looked cheerful, but I couldn’t shake off the feeling that he, like the rest of his brothers, were killers.

Stop, Giselle. Stop!

“Thanks for the compliment. You don’t look bad yourself.” He’d worn a black leather jacket and leather pants. His long hair below his shoulders made him look every bit the bad boy. He was the type of guy every girl in college would have a crush on.

“How’s my niece doing?” He looked at my stomach. “Have a name for her yet?”

I couldn’t bite back a laugh. “Niece?”

He inclined with a nod. “Nikolai has always wanted a daughter. A son would mean he’d have to be part of the mafia. A daughter on the other hand—” he thought for a moment. “Well, she can be traded to keep peace between the families.”

I frowned, horror trickling through my veins at what I’d just heard. “What?”

“Watch what you say, Vlad,” Nikolai snarled, giving his brother a death stare. “I believe you’ll still need your two legs to ride a bike, maybe a hand would do. Angelo would appreciate it.”

Vlad held up his hands and chuckled. “Relax, man. I was only joking, bro.”

I sighed, partly relieved that it had only been a joke. Then I looked at Nikolai, surprised at how defensive he was over our baby. It was hard to understand him sometimes. I knew he got married to me because of the baby, but I didn’t expect he would be so protective of his unborn child.

Vlad winked at me. “You better get used to how things work around here. Nikolai won’t always be around to let you know if it’s a joke.”

I opened my mouth for a retort but decided against it. He was right. Nikolai wouldn’t always be around to fight for me, and pissing his brother off wasn’t in my best interest.

“Where’s Sergey?” Nikolai asked.
