Her eyes widened. There it was again, an apology from Nikolai Vadim. She wasn’t expecting it, and I wore a proud look. I brushed a thumb underneath her eyes and wiped her tears.
“I understand your fear because I felt the same way. I’m sorry I shouldn’t have acted so rashly. I was fucking scared, Giselle. I don’t know what I would have done if those guys harmed you and our baby. The thought of it drove me over the edge.”
“Yes, but...” she continued her rambling and I chuckled. “You should have listened to me. I was there. I tried to stop you, but you just told me to move, Nikolai. You say you were scared about losing me? But I was right there. I was right in front of you. Because of you, I’m okay. Our baby is fine and...”
I dipped my head and captured her lips with mine.
Silence ensued between us, and she sucked in a deep breath before pulling away. Her pupils dilated and her gaze was fixated on my lips.
“What was that?”
I tucked a lock of her dark long hair behind her ear and let my finger linger. “Think of it as a double-edged sword.”
Her forehead wrinkled as her brows creased. “A double-edged sword?”
“Yes, Giselle,” I said more seriously. “It was one way to say thank you. Thank you for looking out for me. Thank you for staying up by my side all night. Thank you for being here with me, right now. I am so happy you’re safe.”
She arched a brow. “And the other edge? What is it?”
I smiled. Being with this woman in front of me did things to my heart. I couldn’t imagine being with any other woman at the moment. With Giselle, I felt content. And yet I wanted more. More from her.
I pulled her even closer and snaked an arm around her waist. “It was another way to shut you up. Sometimes, Giselle... you talk a lot.”
She matched my smile with a bright one and threw her arms around my neck. “And sometimes, Nikolai. That’s a good thing.”
Before I uttered another word, she pressed her lips against mine.
Chapter 20 - Giselle
His hands slid from my thighs and traveled upwards to my buttocks. I was bare and my skin molded perfectly in his big hands. I moaned against his lips and pressed myself against his bare chest as he lay me gently on the bed.
