The entire purpose of coming all the way to Shropshire instead of getting his fix in any number of the small London kink circles he was part of was to put his ordinary life aside. He shuddered to think what would happen if he ever ran into one of his students while naked and strapped to a St. Andrew’s Cross, his back marked up from a whip and his cock dripping with precum.

“I’ve got you out in one of the forest cottages, Jamie,” Greg, the registrar said as he handed Jamie his information packet and key. “It’s one of the smaller ones, but I know you like to end up staying with your dom overnight.” He winked as Jamie accepted his things.

“I do whatever my dom tells me to do,” Jamie replied with a grin.

“Bollocks,” Greg went on with a wince. “This is an anonymous weekend. I shouldn’t be using your name. I mean, most of us know each other already, but there are a good deal of newbies here this time, and the committee has decided no real names or personal information.”

“Understood,” Jamie said. “Anonymity is always fun.”

He and Kit stepped away from the desk and moved over to the side, where a small refreshment table was set up.

“Are you looking to play around this weekend, or do you want to spend the whole thing with one player?” Kit asked him, starting to slip into a more serious mode.

Jamie shrugged, trying to still himself so he could feel what he was after from the getaway. Of course, chances were he would fall into old patterns, particularly if a certain someone was there for the weekend. It didn’t matter how many times he told himself a break was a break, he had weaknesses, and Ronny knew how to exploit them.

“I suppose it depends on who’s here this weekend,” he said. He gave Kit his best submissive grin.

“Don’t you do it, Jamison,” Kit told him with a serious, warning look. “I don’t care how good he is, Ronny isn’t a good choice.”

Jamie lowered his head. “I know, but he’s…familiar. We share so much history.”

“Bad history,” Kit said with a frown. “You ended things for a reason.”

And he kept going back to Ronny, in play only, thinking those reasons would go away. It was a terrible habit that he desperately needed to break. There were other doms in the sea. He needed to stop letting his reliance of the familiar and nervousness over playing with someone new—who might not know or respect his limits, or who might know he worked at the university and whisper the wrong thing to the wrong person—keep him trapped in a relationship with someone who respected his limits in the bedroom, but stomped all over them everywhere else.

“Are you offering up your own skills and talents to keep me away from bad habits?” he asked.

Kit laughed again. “Maybe. But I have someone else in mind for you, if you’re up for playing with a beginner.”

Jamie’s brow lifted. “I’m intrigued.” Beginners weren’t as worrying to Jamie as experienced doms he’d never played with.

“I knew you would be,” Kit said with a sly look. “Obviously, I can’t tell you his name, but he’s in his mid-twenties, he’s had an interesting and somewhat trying past, and I’ve been mentoring him as he embraces his inner dom.”

“Now I’m definitely intrigued,” Jamie said.

“He’s got incredible potential,” Kit went on. “He’s a natural. I noticed that his name was already ticked off on the registration list, so he’s already here somewhere. If you’d like, I can go find him and make the formal introductions.”

“Absolutely,” Jamie said, his pulse kicking up as the promise of the weekend began to sink in. “I’ll just wait over here in the parlor, talking myself into being a good boy.”

Kit winked and headed off to find his friend, leaving Jamie to adjust his rucksack and glasses again as he crossed the hall into an old-fashioned parlor. The house was already filling up, and the parlor wasn’t as quiet as he wanted it to be, but the conversations echoing through the halls around him were benign enough that he would be able to get into the place he wanted to be for the weekend.

Subbing was something he took very seriously, and it was a trait that was deeply misunderstood by far too many people. It wasn’t about craving pain and humiliation. Well, it wasn’tcompletelyabout those things. For Jamie, it was about letting go of the stress and concerns of his job and his world and handing control over to someone else for a while. Working for a top London university and holding a prominent place in the Psychology department could be incredibly stressful, and sometimes he just needed to drop that ball.

And the adrenaline and endorphins of being restrained, flogged, whipped, and fucked was a high unlike anything he’d ever experienced. He liked sex, a lot, and he liked it rough. And then he liked to get up, shower off the sweat and cum, and go back to the rest of his life. Play and life were two very separate places. It was something few of his past partners had truly understood.

“Jamie. I knew you’d be here this weekend.”

Speak of the devil.

Jamie glanced up from the information in his packet that he’d been reading through to find none other than Ronny sauntering into the parlor. “Ronny,” he greeted the man with a frown, trying to hide the old, familiar, unhelpful excitement that Ronny always sparked in him. “Fancy seeing you here.”

Ronny grinned at him in that arrogant, insufferable way that he’d always had, a way that Jamie had once loved and needed, as he walked right up to the settee where Jamie had planted himself. He stood so close that Jamie was trapped where he was, Ronny’s crotch a little too close to his face.

“I can always count on you to show up to these things,” Ronny said, pretending he was too good for the sort of weekend that was about to take place. “You’re the type who always comes back for more.”

Jamie took a quick, settling breath. More than anything, he wanted to tell Ronny off for being an arse. But as irritating as it was, just the sight of Ronny put him straight into sub mode, and his instinct was to respect him and not talk back.

God, he hated that instinct. Where Ronny was concerned, at least. It wasn’t helpful. They’d known each other since they were kids, and they’d dated officially for three years. Ronny had made him miserable for a good two and a half years of that time.
