Her brown eyes were wide as she gasped for air. Pink, full lips that I’d dreamed about kissing open as she tried desperately to right herself.

Fuck, fuck, fuck! What had I done?

No.I’d never meant to hurt her. This was all forher.

Her open palm connected with the side of my face hard enough that it made my ears ring.

I’d doanythingfor her. Kill anyone for her. But never had I thought that she would—

She pushed up to her knees, coughs racking her body.

“I can’t believe you—” her wheezing voice was cut off by a particularly powerful cough. “I thought we promised—”

“You said you wouldn’t do anything reckless!” I yelled, though it was more from panic than anger. “What are youdoinghere, Vic?”

“I could ask you the same!” she snapped, letting out another cough that caused my heart to twist in my chest.

I’d come seconds away from killing her. My hands were shaking under the weight of the realization.

“For you!” I plead. “I promised you I would find a way. What do you think I’ve been doing this whole time?”

She shook her head, loosing a derisive laugh.

“Living your comfyLegacylife?” she scoffed, shrugging. “I don’t know. Whatever else it is you decided to do with all the money your father can give you.”

“You thought I was just messing around?” I asked. “Like my promise meant nothing? Like what happened meant nothing to me?”

“How would I know?” she asked, seething with anger. “I wasstruggling,Kohl. I couldn’t just dr—”

“And you changed your hair?” I asked accusatorily, reaching forward to grab onto it. The once-blonde locks now a mix of black and teal. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you didn’t want to be found. Is this your way of avoiding me? Knowing that I’d try to stop you if you entered?”

Her eyebrows pulled together and she let out the cutest angry huff.

“My hairstyle choices have nothing to do withyou. Fucking self-centered-ass-fuckboy Wolff, Christ!”

Memories of stolen moments through my mind. Even though the circumstances were different, she was still the same Victoria that that enraptured me, mind, body and soul.

My goddess.

I couldn’t stop myself. Blame it on the adrenaline. Maybe the anger at seeing her. The anger from her so obviously trying to hide from me. The person who had been willing to not only put their life on the line butkillfor her as well.

Maybe it was her closeness, the smell of the sweat on her skin mixed with the bitter peachy perfume she always wore.

Or maybe it was the memory of her writhing against me—begging me not to stop—even ifbothof us knew we shouldn’t have been doing what we were.

Or maybe it was justher.

The same Victoria that’d been living in my dreams and haunting my nightmares. The one I yearned for even when she wasn’t supposed to be mine.

Ultimately it didn’t matter why I did it. Only that in one moment we were staring at each other and the next I’d crashed my lips to hers.

It was like years of pent-upwantexploded at the contact. The littletreatshe’d given me at the graduation party barely scratching the surface of this bone deep, unquenchableneedfor her.

I gripped her messy hair, tangling my hands in it and using it to keep her under my control as I ravaged her mouth.

I expected her to fight me after what I did. To kick and scream and force me off.

But instead, her hands wrapped around my shoulders and pulled me closer. I was on my knees in front of her and used my free arm to wrap around her waist, forcing her to straddle me. Glass embedded into my skin through the fabric of my pants, but I welcomed the bite.
