Sometimes, if I was lucky, she’d even notice me and wave.

And, even less frequently, by the grace of the goddess herself, we’d walk to class together.

That little miracle happened the day before, so I got my hopes up that today would be the same.

But she didn’t show.

I didn’t realize why until I got home, finding Dylan in the living room on his laptop. I paused when I saw him. It wasn’t like I often saw Dylan working on schoolwork, the guy barely even hung around the house during the day. Too busy with his shithead friends.

Then I saw his computer.

Legacy Victoria Miller’s Nudes Leaked.

He scrolled down, and right there were two slightly blurred pictures of Vic. Even with the filter, what was happening was obvious.

I did what I should’ve done that night.

I stormed over, grabbed his computer, and chucked it across the room, the device hitting the hardwood with a clatter.

Dylan shot up. “What the fuck, Kohl—”

I pushed him back down on the couch, towering over him.

“Is this what you did with them?” I hissed and motioned to the computer a room away. “God, do you have any fucking decency? You piece of fucking shit—”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” Dylan seethed, throwing his hands up. “You just come in here spouting nonsense—”

“She didn’t come to school today becauseyouleaked her fucking nudes,” I growled.

He closed his mouth and opened it again, a slow, vicious smile spreading across his lips.

“So, you’ve been keeping tabs on my girlfriend now?” he asked.

“Don’t try and change the subject,” I huffed. “You leaked the nudes of a high schooler.”

“She’s eighteen,” he shot back. “And why areyouaccusing me? I’ve seen how you watch her, maybe it wasyou. Wanted a bit ofrevenge for her getting with me and not afreaklike you, huh, Kohl?”

I snapped.

One moment I was standing over him, white-hot rage licking up my spine, and the next I was on my back with Dylan straddling me, his ham-like fists raised.

His face was bloody, the liquid running from his nose to splatter onto me. Dylan’s eyes were purple and starting to swell as he breathed heavily.

My fists and arms ached.

I’d never been much of a fighter. My slight build and natural inclination toward being quiet generally kept me out of trouble. But in that moment, I fit the puzzle pieces together about what happened.

He’d gone too fucking far.

His fist slammed into my face, once, twice, a third time before he was yanked off of me. Through the ringing in my ears, I could just make out Dylan and Father screaming at each other.

I glared at him through my blurred vision.

Father forced him out of the room, barking a command I didn’t hear.

As I forced myself up, my hand came into contact with something cold and metal.

I strained my eyes to make out Dylan’s phone.
