“Home.” I wanted to live in the moment as we smiled at each other. I wanted to swoop her in my arms and kiss her pain away, but the telltale signs of men walking down the hall stirred me.

“After this,” I added with my hand on my gun. Her eyes locked onto the dead agent blocking the doorway, a smile spreading across her face.

“Mind if I help?” she asked, the most wicked, sexiest grin crossing her face.

I had never been more turned on in my life.

“Fuck ya you can help,” I said and pulled her close to deliver a quick, but burning kiss to her mouth. “I love you.”

“I love you more,” she whispered against me before diving to the dead agent and stealing his gun.

I was almost too stunned by her words to move. Heat traveled up my face.

She said she loved—

My thoughts were interrupted by her shooting down the hallway.

“Come on, lover girl, you promised me a home.”

I couldn’t help but laugh.

That I did.And I would deliver. It didn’t matter if it was only two police men out there, or twenty I would make damn sure that she got the happy ending she deserved.

Hands grabbed me. Forcing me to the ground. Pain radiated through my entire left side.

Their laughs echoed through my head. Taunting me.

I tried to break out of their hold, but I couldn’t. Just like then, I was powerless.

I opened my mouth to scream but no words came out.

Please stop. Please, let me go. Words I had said over and over again, but they fell on deaf ears.

Please. Please—

I sat up with a painful gasp.

Sweat poured down my face, the covers pooling at my hips. My eyes darted around the room, trying their hardest to find any of the devils that may have followed me out of the dream and into the real world.

But there was none.

Instead, I was met with light-colored wood. Splashes of blue wallpaper. And the sound of waves crashing somewhere in the distance.

Quiet.

I let myself revel in it, just like Quinn had taught me. To listen to the world Letting it remind me that I was no longer in danger.

I took a deep breath. The not-so-stale scent of Quinn filled my senses.

Knowing that she was somewhere near helped the panic die down just enough for me to swing my legs over the bed, my feet coming into contact with the cold floors.

I could feel her here. Her presence was unmistakable.

I followed the hallway out onto the living room. White couches with blue blankets
